‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ Trailer Just Dropped a Line That Could Explain All of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Some movies earn the right to a victory lap, and few in franchise history have earned it quite like ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ The film closed out over a decade of interconnected storytelling back in 2019, delivering one of the most emotional theatrical experiences modern blockbuster filmmaking has ever produced.

That kind of communal moment is exactly what Marvel Studios is hoping to recreate this fall. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ closing in on its December release, the studio has decided to bring ‘Endgame’ back to theaters under a new banner, rebranding the re-release as ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ rather than just a simple rerun.

At Marvel’s Hall H panel during San Diego Comic-Con, the studio debuted the first trailer for that re-release, and it leans heavily into one specific piece of the original film’s ending. The footage focuses on Steve Rogers’ journey to return the Infinity Stones to their original timelines, paired with Tony Stark’s now iconic warning about the consequences of tampering with time.

That particular line, about how messing with time tends to mess back, is getting fresh scrutiny from fans who think Marvel is using it as more than just a nostalgic callback. The way the trailer weaves that dialogue together with the stone return sequence has led some to believe Marvel is quietly setting up the exact mechanism that causes the multiversal chaos driving ‘Doomsday.’

That theory carries extra weight given how ‘Endgame’ actually left Steve Rogers. After completing his mission, Steve chose to stay behind in the past to live out a life with Peggy Carter, an ending that felt completely final for years until his surprise reappearance in the ‘Doomsday’ trailer caught longtime fans off guard all over again.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige addressed the reasoning behind the re-release directly during the panel, telling the Hall H crowd that with 2019 feeling like a long time ago, the studio wanted to remind audiences what that communal theater experience felt like, which is why they’re bringing back ‘Avengers Endgame’ on September 25.

Beyond the nostalgia angle, the re-release comes with real incentive for fans to show up. Feige confirmed that ‘Endgame Encore’ will include exclusive new footage tied directly to ‘Doomsday,’ giving audiences a reason to revisit the film beyond simply reliving its biggest moments on the big screen.

The timing here is deliberate as well. ‘Endgame Encore’ lands on September 25, sitting neatly between ‘Spider-Man Brand New Day’ at the end of July and ‘Avengers Doomsday’ in mid-December, giving Marvel three major theatrical events across just five months heading into the end of the year.

Marvel is also pushing the format side of this release hard, encouraging fans to catch it in IMAX or in theaters carrying the studio’s newly created Infinity Vision distinction, a label reserved for screens meeting specific size and sound requirements that Marvel has been certifying across thousands of locations worldwide.

Whether that retooled Tony Stark line ends up being the actual key to how the multiverse unravels in ‘Doomsday’ remains to be seen, but Marvel clearly wants longtime fans thinking about unresolved threads from ‘Endgame’ before the next chapter even arrives.
