‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ Filming Reportedly Slips to November, Adding Fresh Doubt to Marvel’s Multiverse Finale

The road to ‘Avengers: Secret Wars‘ has never been a straight line, and the Multiverse Saga finale keeps finding new ways to test fan patience. Marvel Studios has spent years juggling release dates, rewrites, and an ever-growing cast wishlist, so a shifting production calendar hardly feels shocking anymore. Still, every fresh scheduling rumor lands with the force of a small earthquake.

To understand why, it helps to rewind. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ began filming in April because it was originally aimed at a May 2026 release. Disney later moved both ‘Avengers’ films, with ‘Doomsday’ now set for December 18, 2026 and ‘Secret Wars’ shifting from May 7, 2027 to December 17, 2027. That shuffle is the reason filming on the finale was always going to start later.

That brings us to the latest update. On September 30, 2026, the fan-news account Cosmic Marvel shared a report that the filming of ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ has been delayed and will now begin in November, crediting insider Daniel Richtman. Richtman had previously indicated that production was scheduled to begin in about 2 weeks, before reversing course and pointing to November.

Richtman himself flagged the change as a correction on X, writing “November now?” on the same day. As one outlet noted, the scooper has a credible track record, but fans should still treat the claim with caution until Marvel Studios weighs in.

If it feels like you’ve heard a filming date for this movie before, you’re right. The production was initially planned for around April 2026, then reportedly slid to August, then to October, and now to November, which adds up to roughly a 6-month slip. Earlier reporting had even pointed to a spring 2026 start in the UK.

The most recent shift has a reported explanation. Richtman said the move from an expected August kickoff into late September was meant to make room for another round of additional photography on ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. That reportedly suggests the crew was still busy finishing the first film before the second could begin.

Fans had also been hoping that early work on ‘Secret Wars’ was already in the can. Some believed scenes had been shot during the ‘Doomsday’ reshoots and that VFX work was underway, but those reports reportedly turned out to have no truth to them. In other words, cameras have not yet rolled on the final chapter.

That is the big question, and opinions are split. One outlet argues that if filming doesn’t start until late September or early October, and the shoot runs as long as the previous film’s did, the movie would land well into 2028. Others counter that ‘Doomsday’ may have smoothed the path, since work on the first film could ease the burden on the follow-up.

The math is tight either way. Earlier reporting noted that an August start would leave about 6 months of shooting, wrapping around January 2027, and less than a year for post-production that includes editing, reshoots, and extensive visual effects. A November start squeezes that window even further.

For now, the studio is keeping quiet. Marvel Studios has not commented on the filming start for ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ one way or the other, and the movie’s production has not been addressed officially in some time. Whether the delay includes a change to the release date also remains to be seen.

What we do know is who is involved. The film is helmed by Joe and Anthony Russo, and Robert Downey Jr. is confirmed to return as Victor von Doom. Early rumors suggest the story may feature Battleworld, inspired by the comics, following Doctor Doom’s victory in ‘Doomsday’.

Delays are common for blockbusters of this size, and nothing here is official. Even so, each schedule change makes the wait for the Multiverse Saga’s grand finale feel a little longer.
