‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ Star Iman Vellani Wants Kamala Khan to Team Up With the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Fans Are Already on Board
Iman Vellani has never been shy about treating her role as Kamala Khan like the fan she genuinely is, and that enthusiasm has only grown louder as the character’s footprint in the Marvel Cinematic Universe keeps expanding. Since debuting in her own Disney+ series, Kamala has jumped from Jersey City bedroom daydreams to sharing the screen with Captain Marvel herself, and Vellani has spent just as much time publicly wishlisting where the character should go next.
That wishlisting habit has become something of a signature for her. Vellani has previously floated the idea of Kamala crossing paths with the Young Avengers and even suggested a hypothetical team-up with Red Guardian, always framing her suggestions less as demands and more as the excited musings of someone who grew up reading these comics long before she ever put on the suit.
Her latest pitch, though, points the character in a considerably more cosmic direction. Speaking on the Revenge Of! podcast, Vellani revealed she wants Ms. Marvel to interact with the Guardians of the Galaxy within the MCU, telling the hosts, “I love the idea of Kamala in space… I love the Guardians [and] I think Kamala would be a really fun dynamic with them.”
The comment fits naturally into Vellani’s broader philosophy about where she thinks Marvel Studios should be headed. During that same conversation, she was also asked what she’d change if she were handed control of the MCU, and her answer leaned surprisingly restrained for someone constantly pitching new crossovers: she said she’d “maybe do less team-ups,” arguing the franchise works best when audiences are given real reason to care about individual characters rather than simply being handed ever-larger ensemble events.
That combination of comments isn’t as contradictory as it might first appear. Vellani’s Guardians pitch reads less like a call for another giant crossover and more like a specific, character-driven pairing, the kind of selective team-up she’s suggested the MCU should be leaning into rather than avoiding altogether.
Kamala’s own MCU journey has already shown how quickly a character introduced in a smaller, personal setting can get swept into the franchise’s biggest events. She went from her intimate Disney+ origin story straight into ‘The Marvels,’ and with ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set for December 18 bringing together heroes from across the MCU’s many corners, including the Fantastic Four and X-Men, Kamala’s path forward remains one of the more closely watched threads heading into Marvel’s next phase.
Pairing her with the Guardians would also give Kamala a genuinely different sandbox to play in compared to her Earth-bound adventures so far. The Guardians’ irreverent, found-family dynamic could offer a sharp tonal contrast to the grounded, community-focused stories that have defined Kamala’s arc since her introduction, while still giving Vellani the chance to explore the character’s cosmic curiosity that fans have wanted to see tested since ‘The Marvels’ first sent her into space.
Whether Marvel Studios has any actual plans to put that pairing on screen remains unknown for now, but Vellani’s track record of publicly campaigning for Kamala’s future has made her wishlist items feel like more than just idle fan chatter over the years.
