Avengers Tower Attraction Model Revealed for Hong Kong Disneyland at D23

Hong Kong Disneyland has been quietly building out its Marvel footprint for nearly a decade now, ever since the resort first announced plans to bring Stark Expo to life within Tomorrowland. The Iron Man Experience opened in 2017, followed two years later by Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle, giving the park two solid Marvel attractions while fans waited on a promised third.

That third project has had a rocky road to reality. An Avengers Quinjet attraction was originally announced for the space, prompting Autopia’s closure back in 2016 to make room, but the ride quietly vanished from Disney’s plans without much explanation. It wasn’t until 2024 that Hong Kong Disneyland confirmed the expansion was still happening, unveiling a reworked concept centered on Spider-Man instead of the long-dormant Quinjet idea.

That reworked vision has now taken a major step forward. At D23’s Imagineering pavilion this week, Disney put an actual physical model of the new Marvel-themed land on display, giving fans their clearest look yet at the drop tower attraction and the surrounding Stark Expo buildings that will house it.

The model builds on concept art Disney released last September, which confirmed the ride will use a Tower of Terror-style freefall system featuring multiple Marvel characters rather than just Spider-Man. That earlier artwork depicted Doctor Strange, Thor, Black Panther, and Spider-Man in action as riders drop, with Asgard visible in the background and Captain America greeting guests near the entrance.

The attraction’s path from announcement to model has taken far longer than Disney originally intended. The Marvel-themed area was first announced back in 2016 as part of a massive expansion plan for Hong Kong Disneyland, but between the abandoned Quinjet concept and years of silence on any new attraction, fans had plenty of reason to wonder if the project would ever move forward.

Once Disney confirmed the shift toward a Spider-Man-centered drop tower during D23 2024, momentum began building steadily, culminating in last year’s expanded concept art and now this week’s physical model. The building itself is expected to house what Disney has labeled the Research Testing Labs, complete with a satellite dish pointed skyward, tying the attraction’s theming into the same brand of Stark-tech storytelling used throughout Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure.

The Hong Kong model wasn’t displayed in isolation. WDW News Today’s on-site coverage confirmed the model appeared alongside a wider lineup of international park projects inside Disney’s Imagineering pavilion, part of a presentation that also included an upcoming Wreck-It Ralph attraction and reimagined Space Mountain for Tokyo Disneyland, a Spider-Man project for Shanghai Disneyland, and a Lion King attraction under construction at Disneyland Paris.

That kind of showcase underscores just how much of Disney’s current theme park attention is focused overseas, with Imagineers pulling double duty across projects on multiple continents. More than 150 Imagineers are reportedly staffing the pavilion throughout the D23 weekend to walk fans through these international builds in detail.

No official opening date has been announced for the Hong Kong drop tower, and the ride still doesn’t have a confirmed title. Still, with a full-scale model now on display and years of on-and-off development behind it, the Avengers’ latest Hong Kong home finally feels like it’s moving from concept to construction.
