‘Barbie’ Star Dua Lipa Shares Family Photos From a ‘Big Albanian Wedding,’ Complete With a Glass-on-Head Dance
Family weddings have a way of bringing out the most joyful side of celebrities. For Dua Lipa, whose Kosovo Albanian roots are central to her identity, a cousin’s wedding turned into a full weekend of tradition, dancing, and photos. Dua Lipa’s Albanian wedding photos gave fans an unusually warm look at her family life.
The pop star has often spoken about how close she is to her parents and siblings. Her father, Dukagjin, manages her career, and the two co-founded the Sunny Hill Festival in Pristina in 2018. That closeness was on full display in her latest Instagram post.
On Sunday, September 27, Lipa shared a carousel of photos and videos from a family celebration. The wedding was held in Kosovo. She congratulated her cousin and his bride, Rozafa Kelmendi, calling it a big Albanian wedding and saying that their circle is growing.
The carousel included a shot of the newlyweds cutting a giant four-tier cake and one of the couple sitting in the car. Lipa also posed for photos with her mother, Anesa, and sister, Rina, and took selfies with her father and brother, Gjin. The pictures capture a large, affectionate family in full party mode.
The most talked-about moment was a video of Lipa dancing with her father. Both balance a glass on their heads while performing the valle, a traditional Albanian folk dance. Others in the wedding party danced with traditional handkerchiefs or clapped as they surrounded the pair.
They kept the glasses perfectly balanced while dancing in circles with their arms in the air. The dance ended with the two bowing to each other before removing the glasses. Lipa has previously shown off the party trick in vacation snaps, and the clip quickly went viral.
Lipa also wore two very different looks. For the celebration, she wore a backless black midi dress with wispy feather accents on the bodice and thin straps. Later, she layered a long-sleeved, semi-sheer gold top over black.
The gold piece, a Lou de Bètoly vintage crochet top, was covered in gold-toned discs, beads, and colorful stones. Reports said it was made from buttons the designer had collected since she was 10. In the photos, the embellished top looked like a treasure chest of gold coins.
Her father summed up the mood in the comments. He wrote that he was still dancing, a line that captured the energy of the weekend. It fit the image of a family that loves to celebrate.
Lipa has said in the past that her family loves a party, recalling a night out when she and Charli xcx ran into her parents at a New York nightclub. Wedding photos like these show that the same spirit follows them home.
Lipa received Albanian citizenship in 2022, in a ceremony attended by her parents and siblings. Her parents fled the Balkans for England in 1992 during a period of conflict and political instability. She has spoken about how they built a new life in a new place.
Those roots explain why the weekend meant so much. It was a chance to return to family and tradition rather than a public event. Local outlets in Kosovo also noted that she came for a completely private family reason.
The wedding comes in a big year for Lipa’s own family life. She married actor Callum Turner in 2026, first in a legal ceremony at Marylebone Town Hall in May and then in a grand wedding in Italy a week later. Turner did not appear to be with her at her cousin’s wedding.
She has said her own wedding day was magical, and that she and Turner made an effort to keep finding each other in the crowd. It is easy to see that same spirit in the photos from Kosovo, where she and her relatives seemed to enjoy every minute.
