‘Beauty in Black’ Season 2 Recap: Every Shocking Twist In Kimmie’s Rise to Power
‘Beauty in Black’ fans finally got the full picture once Season 2 wrapped, and the Bellarie family drama delivered on every promise of chaos. Tyler Perry’s Netflix hit picked up right where Season 1 left off, throwing Kimmie into a world of boardroom betrayals, hospital bed weddings, and a family that never wanted her there in the first place.
Season 1 had ended on a cliffhanger, with ultra-rich businessman Horace Bellarie introducing his sons Roy and Charles to their new stepmother, and their new boss, Kimmie. That single twist set the stage for everything that followed in Season 2.
Kimmie’s Rise to Power
Season 2 opens just after patriarch Horace marries Kimmie in a scheme to leave her his inheritance, since she is the only person he truly trusts. From his hospital bed, he tells his shocked heirs Roy and Charles that Kimmie is their new stepmother, and also their new boss.
That announcement does not sit well with anyone in the family. The news is especially unwelcome for his beauty mogul daughter-in-law Mallory, his ex-wife Olivia, and the rest of the wealthy Bellarie clan.
Kimmie does not die in Season 2, despite the show teasing danger around every corner. After her hospital bedside nuptials, she wastes no time shaking things up at Beauty in Black.
Horace tries to advise her on business matters while undergoing experimental cancer treatment in Italy, but Kimmie does not need the help, since she has already done her own research and formed her own in-depth plan. Her transformation from Chicago club dancer to corporate power player becomes the engine driving the entire season.
Mallory and Kimmie’s Alliance
In Part 1, Kimmie had her hands full after marrying her former client Horace and being installed as head of his lucrative hair care company. Actress Taylor Polidore Williams explained that Kimmie wants to be seen as legitimate, that she is done proving she belongs, and that she is claiming her place.
The only thing stopping her from leveling up Beauty in Black with money saving changes is Horace’s bitter brood, including sons Roy and Charles, brother in law Norman, and ex wife Olivia, all of whom refuse to accept that the business they assumed was their birthright now belongs to an outsider. Naturally, her most intimidating opponent turns out to be the woman already running the show.

Kimmie’s most intimidating foe is Mallory, Roy’s wife, who ran the business until Kimmie took over, and who is not pleased about being dethroned. Williams noted that power changes the rules, and as Kimmie steps further into her new role, her relationship with Mallory becomes more complex, adding that nothing comes without consequence.
By the back half of the season, the rivalry twists into something nobody predicted. In Part 2, Kimmie finds an unlikely ally in Mallory, who becomes more than eager to cash in on the business she has been running for years, especially while taking down her unfaithful husband Roy in the process.
The Bellarie Family Drama and Body Count
This is not a show that shies away from consequences, and the Bellarie household racks up plenty of them. Along the way there are multiple murders, plenty of sex, and new problems that Kimmie manages to find herself entangled in.
The showdowns extend well beyond the boardroom. Episode one, titled ‘Make It Rain’, sees Kimmie apply for a scholarship to the Beauty in Black hair school founded by the Bellarie family in a bid to escape the strip club and Jules’s control, a flashback thread the season revisits as it builds Kimmie’s origin story.
A later episode shows Mallory and Roy trying to outmaneuver a chaotic string of events, while Kimmie defies orders to help Rain and forges a pact with a secretive, powerful client.
The stakes only climbed once Part 2 arrived. Tyler Perry’s ‘Beauty in Black’ Season 2, Part 2 returned with the tagline that the reckoning would be beautiful, promising even higher stakes for the Bellarie family, and the finale delivered on that promise with betrayals that reshaped the entire power structure.
‘Beauty in Black’ Ending Explained
By the time the season closes, Kimmie has fully cemented her place at the top. She settles into her rightful place as chief operating officer of the family business, earning the nickname HBIC, or head Bellarie in charge.
The show’s numbers back up the hype. Season 1 spent seven weeks in the Top 10 and hit number one across 28 countries in its second week, while Season 2 Part 1 was the number one show in 14 countries during its second week.
The finale sets up what comes next for the whole family. Season 2 ends with a team up two seasons in the making, as Kimmie calls a board meeting to order with none other than Mallory, her former rival turned unlikely ally, standing right beside her.
That alliance carries directly into the next chapter of the story. Season 3 of ‘Beauty in Black’ was confirmed to continue the Bellarie family’s chaos, and Season 4 has already been renewed as well.
Kimmie’s climb from dancer to dynasty leader has turned into one of Netflix’s most talked about soap opera arcs, and with Mallory now in her corner, the Bellarie boardroom feels more dangerous than ever heading into what comes next. What did you make of Kimmie and Mallory finally joining forces after two seasons of trying to destroy each other?
