Behind the Scenes Drama Between Kaley Cuoco and Rose McGowan on ‘Charmed’
Kaley Cuoco recently opened up about her time on the show Charmed, and it sounds like it wasn’t all magic behind the scenes. The 40-year-old actress spoke on the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shepard and Monica Padman, reflecting on joining the supernatural drama for its final season back in 2005.
Cuoco joked about how easy it is to forget difficult moments when you’ve worked on a lot of projects. She recalled her first day on Charmed, which included a formal cast photoshoot with series stars Alyssa Milano, Rose McGowan, and Holly Marie Combs.
“It felt like walking into someone’s family dinner without knowing anyone,” she said, describing a mix of confidence and dread as a 21-year-old stepping into such an established group.
She shared that Alyssa Milano made the transition much easier. “She ran over to me and gave me the biggest hug in the world. She said, ‘Welcome to the show,’ and I instantly felt better,” Cuoco said.
Her experience with Rose McGowan, however, was less clear. Cuoco said that McGowan didn’t seem overly enthusiastic about the new addition, and to this day, she isn’t sure how they stood with each other. Despite this, she remains grateful for the support Milano showed her during that period.
Cuoco explained that this early lesson in set dynamics stayed with her throughout her time on The Big Bang Theory. She became very aware of how intimidating it can be for new actors to join an established cast and made a point to welcome newcomers herself.
Since Charmed, Cuoco has continued to build an impressive career. She recently starred in the mystery thriller Vanished on MGM+, playing an archaeologist searching for her missing boyfriend in France alongside Sam Claflin.
Her dark comedy, Based on a True Story, was canceled after two seasons, but she remains a strong executive producer. She is currently developing a new half-hour comedy for HBO called Kansas City Star with the team behind Hacks.
On the personal side, Cuoco is enjoying life with her fiancé, actor Tom Pelphrey, and their two-year-old daughter, Matilda. The family recently made headlines with a coordinated appearance at the Critics’ Choice Awards, where Pelphrey was nominated for his role in the drama Task.
Cuoco’s reflections on Charmed show that even small gestures like a hug can make a big difference on set, and that early experiences can shape the way actors treat others throughout their careers.
