Bill Maher Roasts Trump’s Freedom 250 Concert in Brutal On-Air Takedown
Bill Maher took aim at President Donald Trump’s upcoming Freedom 250 concert during the latest episode of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, turning the event into one of the main targets of his opening monologue.
The concert series is being organized as part of celebrations marking America’s 250th birthday. The event is scheduled to take place on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., and is expected to feature several music acts across multiple days. However, according to reports, the event has already faced several setbacks after a number of performers reportedly withdrew from the lineup.
During his monologue, Maher joked about the artists originally announced for the celebration and questioned the overall appeal of the event.
“We’re having a 250th birthday party for America. A concert,” Maher told his audience. “They announced the lineup: Vanilla Ice, Milli Vanilli, Morris Day, Bret Michaels. I think this is very admirable about the president — it shows that he’s concerned for the unemployed.”
The comedian continued to mock the situation after reports surfaced that several performers no longer planned to appear at the event. According to media reports, artists including Bret Michaels, The Commodores, Young MC, Morris Day and the Time, and members associated with Milli Vanilli have stepped away from the concert.
Country singer Martina McBride also announced that she would not participate. In a statement shared on social media, McBride said she initially believed she had been invited to perform at a nonpartisan celebration.
“I was presented with an opportunity to perform at a nonpartisan event but that turned out to be misleading,” she wrote.
Maher used those developments as another opportunity for jokes.
“And then, after they announced this all-star lineup, a lot of them said, ‘No, what are you talking about? We’re not playing,’” he said. “That’s got to hurt a lot when you can’t close the deal with Milli Vanilli.”
Despite the withdrawals, some performers are still expected to take part in the concert series. Reports indicate that Vanilla Ice, Flo Rida, and Fab Morvan, one of the original faces of Milli Vanilli, remain attached to the event.
Maher did not stop there. Later in his monologue, he shifted his attention to reports surrounding a commemorative $250 bill featuring Trump’s image.
The television host used the story as another punchline during his segment.
“Here’s something in the category of wow, we never used to be this country: They’re putting out a $250 bill with Trump’s face on it,” Maher said. “I guess it’s commemorative. Republicans in Congress are thrilled about it. They can’t wait to carry it in their wallet. What a switcheroo: having Trump’s face next to their ass.”
The Freedom 250 concert series remains scheduled to run from June 25 through July 10 as part of the nation’s semiquincentennial celebrations. While organizers continue preparations, the event has attracted attention not only for its planned performances but also for the growing number of artists who have publicly distanced themselves from it.
Maher’s comments quickly became one of the most talked-about moments from Friday night’s episode, adding another chapter to his long-running criticism of Trump and the political figures who support him.
