‘Black Panther’ Star Chadwick Boseman’s Widow Fires Back at Brothers’ Estate Transparency Claims

Chadwick Boseman’s legacy has remained a deeply protected subject for the family he left behind, with tributes, honors and public remembrances continuing to roll in years after his death. Behind that public celebration, however, a quieter and increasingly contentious dispute has been playing out over how his estate has actually been managed.

That dispute traces back to July, when Boseman’s brothers, Derrick and Kevin, filed a petition on behalf of their parents seeking to remove his widow, Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman, as administrator of the actor’s estate. The brothers alleged that key assets, including royalties, intellectual property rights and various accounts, had not been fully distributed nearly four years after a 2022 court order.

Now Ledward Boseman is pushing back directly against those claims. In newly filed court documents obtained by TMZ, she says she has been generous with the late actor’s family, disputing accusations that she has been anything less than transparent with the estate’s finances.

According to the filing, Ledward Boseman claims she has paid Carolyn and Leroy Boseman more than $1.7 million since 2022, including a $1.5 million payment in May 2023, an additional $260,000 later that year and just over $4,000 in December 2024. She also says she voluntarily gave Derrick’s four children $300,000 of her own personal money, believing it reflected what Chadwick would have wanted for them.

Ledward Boseman’s attorney, Adam Streisand, characterized the brothers’ petition as a “public-relations stunt to smear her in the tabloid press,” according to a filing reviewed by both the Los Angeles Times and ABC News. Her response maintains that she fully complied with the 2022 distribution order and that no estate asset has been lost, wasted or mismanaged under her administration.

Regarding the one asset she acknowledges withholding, an IRA account worth roughly $300,000, Ledward Boseman says a financial institution held back those funds specifically because of demands tied to the ongoing family dispute, and that she intends to distribute it once that obstacle is resolved.

The brothers have told a markedly different story. Their July petition alleged that their parents had waited nearly four years for a complete distribution and accused Ledward Boseman of continuing to exercise unilateral control over the estate without meaningful input from Leroy and Carolyn. They asked the court to appoint Jason Rubin, a professional fiduciary and forensic accountant, to replace her and conduct a full accounting of the estate’s assets.

The underlying complexity of the situation traces back to how Boseman’s estate was structured from the start. The ‘Black Panther’ star died in August 2020 without a will, just days after secretly marrying Ledward Boseman, leaving the court to determine how his assets would eventually be divided between his widow and his parents.

A 2022 probate order established the framework for that distribution, but the brothers’ petition alleges the process was never fully completed in the years since. Ledward Boseman’s team disputes that characterization entirely, framing her financial record as proof of consistent generosity rather than withholding.

With both sides now presenting starkly different accounts in court filings, the dispute over Boseman’s estate shows no signs of resolving quietly.
