Brad Pitt Confesses There Is One Project He Found Disappointing
Brad Pitt is known for picking strong projects and working with famous directors. Over the years, he has teamed up with names like Quentin Tarantino and David Fincher and built one of the most respected careers in Hollywood. Even so, not every movie he made left him feeling proud.
One film still stands out to Pitt as a letdown. That movie is Troy from 2004, where he played the warrior Achilles. The big-budget epic was directed by Wolfgang Petersen and became a huge box office hit, but Pitt has said success did not mean satisfaction.
In a 2019 interview with The New York Times, Pitt looked back on that time in his life and admitted he was unhappy with the movie. He explained that he felt lost in his career back then and was getting pulled in too many directions. Too many people were telling him what kind of star he should be, and it left him unsure of his own voice.
He said the film felt too focused on making him look like a hero instead of telling a deeper story. He felt trapped by how the movie was shot and said there was no mystery in the storytelling.
After working closely with David Fincher on darker and more layered films, Troy felt flat to him. He described it as becoming a very commercial project, which was not what he wanted anymore.
Pitt also shared that he only agreed to do the movie because he needed to honor a studio commitment after leaving another film. While he did not call the experience painful, he admitted he made mistakes and learned a lot from it. That moment pushed him to change how he chose roles and to focus more on stories that actually meant something to him.
That shift clearly paid off. Years later, Pitt won an Oscar for producing 12 Years a Slave and another for acting in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. His career since then has been filled with projects that reflect that promise he made to himself.
As of early this year, Pitt is riding another high point. His racing drama F1 became a massive hit after its late 2025 release. He has also just finished filming The Adventures of Cliff Booth, a new story connected to his Oscar-winning role, with David Fincher directing.
He is also preparing to film The Riders, a mystery thriller directed by Edward Berger, which begins shooting soon in Greece. The story follows a man searching for his missing wife after she disappears at an airport.
Even with all this success, Pitt has never taken back his feelings about Troy. For him, the movie remains a reminder of a time when he stopped listening to his instincts.
Do you agree with Brad Pitt’s view of Troy, or do you think the movie deserves more credit today? Share your thoughts in the comments.
