Brad Pitt’s New Movie Wows Critics, See the Impressive Rotten Tomatoes Score

Brad Pitt returns to the screen in F1: The Movie, a new film that has caught the attention of many critics. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the movie dives into the fast and thrilling world of Formula One racing. It premiered on June 16 in New York City and will be released in theaters across the U.S. on June 27, just before the Austrian Grand Prix weekend.
The movie’s story centers on Sonny Hayes, a former Formula One driver who was forced to retire after a serious crash in the 1990s. Now, he works as a taxi driver and races in smaller competitions. His life changes when Ruben, his old friend and team owner of APXGP, asks him to return to the F1 circuit.
Sonny is asked to guide a young and talented rookie driver named Joshua “Noah” Pearce, played by Damson Idris. Sonny becomes both a mentor and competitor to Noah, which leads to many exciting moments.
Along with Pitt and Idris, the film features Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Javier Bardem, who plays Ruben. The cast is supported by several other actors and real Formula One stars like Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, and Charles Leclerc, who appear as themselves. Even Lewis Hamilton’s dog makes a brief appearance, adding a fun touch.
The film worked closely with the FIA and official Formula One teams to make the racing scenes feel authentic. It includes real team principals and F1 personalities, with Sky Sports commentators lending their voices to the race coverage in the movie.
Critics have responded well to the film so far. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie holds a high approval rating, with 89% of critics giving it positive reviews. The site’s summary states, “Driven by Brad Pitt’s laidback magnetism and sporting a souped-up engine courtesy of Joseph Kosinski’s kinetic direction, F1 The Movie brings vintage cool across the finish line.” Metacritic shows a generally positive reaction with a score of 70 out of 100.
…the strength of F1 lies not in its dramatic arc…but in the racing scenes. [Full review in Spanish]

F1 is a directing masterclass by Joseph Kosinski. If you loved Top Gun Maverick’s kinetic pacing and fluid style, you’ll love this film. Strong sound design, cinematography, score, and performances all around create one of the best films of 2025.

EVERYTHING you want from a summer blockbuster. Impactful, Inspiring, & Intense. Truly one of the best movies of the year that will keep you on edge cheering & possibly have your jaw on the floor with what Kosinski does as a director

Kosinski delivers a solid entry for 2025’s summer session: a slick, glossy blockbuster that’s a feast for the senses and easy on the brain.

Not everyone loved the film, though. Some critics were less impressed, including one from the BBC who gave it only two stars and called it a “non-starter.” However, most praise the movie’s thrilling race scenes, impressive visuals, and strong sound design.
Overall, F1: The Movie is shaping up to be a popular summer release, especially for fans of racing and action films.
Following a dramatic and expertly executed crash sequence, the movie loses its grip. It veers off course into a montage that speeds past where most of the character development might’ve taken place.

Visually, it’s undeniably impressive. But strip away the carbon fibre, and what remains is a movie filled with clichés, weak character arcs, and a script that strains to be inspirational while instead delivering a lot of empty noise.
Doug Jamieson
An incredibly sterile film about virility. It’s so manly it can barely perform.

Had “F1” been a tight 90 minutes, perhaps a lot of its more glaring writing flaws could be forgiven, or at least ignored.
Witney Seibold
There’s an unashamedly “enthusiastic” cross-promotional quality to the film, like a two-and-a-half-hour Formula 1 commercial, that never quite gels with its hoary central story.

In my opinion, the film looks like a fresh and exciting way to bring Formula One racing to the big screen. Brad Pitt’s performance combined with authentic racing action seems like a winning formula.
