Britney Spears has taken a huge step in her career by selling the rights to her entire music catalogue. According to reports, the pop star finalized the deal with independent publisher Primary Wave in February, joining other major artists like Bruce Springsteen and Justin Bieber who have also sold their music rights.

The deal is rumored to be worth around $200 million, though neither Spears nor Primary Wave has commented publicly on the exact figures. At 44, Britney has been clear about moving away from recording music. Earlier in 2024, she told fans she would never return to the industry after a duet with Elton John, which she called her final performance.

This sale includes nearly 40 songs she co-wrote, covering nine studio albums, with hits like Toxic and Gimme More. Primary Wave, which manages the estates of Whitney Houston and Prince, is betting on the long-term value of Britney’s music, confident her influence will continue to grow among new generations.

The move also represents another chapter of independence for Britney, who spent 13 years under a conservatorship that ended in 2021. Over the past few years, she’s focused on reclaiming her story, publishing her bestselling memoir, The Woman in Me. The book gave a candid look at her struggles under her father’s control and her journey to freedom.

Fans can look forward to a film adaptation of The Woman in Me, which is currently in development at Universal Pictures. Jon M. Chu, known for his work on the recent Wicked movies, is directing and has promised to work closely with Britney to tell her story authentically. While no lead has been announced, names like Sabrina Carpenter and Millie Bobby Brown have been mentioned in speculation.

There’s also talk of Britney exploring a fictional musical project where she could play a smart, complex character—something very different from her pop star image. Even if she never performs on stage again, her business decisions suggest she is creating a secure financial future for herself.

Outside of work, Britney has been enjoying her privacy and shares updates about her travels and dance routines on social media. She recently hinted at trips to the UK and Australia to visit family, but remains firm about not performing in the United States.
