California Police Arrest Britney Spears Over Dui Allegation
Pop superstar Britney Spears was arrested in Ventura County, California, on Wednesday evening after a traffic stop, authorities confirmed. The 44-year-old singer was detained by the California Highway Patrol around 9:30 PM on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to law enforcement sources.
Official records from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department show that Spears was booked at 3:02 AM on Thursday. She spent several hours in custody before being released on a cite-and-release and left the facility around 6:00 AM. This arrest comes just days after Spears scored a major legal victory.
A judge recently granted her a permanent restraining order against a 51-year-old man from Louisiana. The individual had allegedly been targeting her with disturbing social media posts since 2013 and was previously arrested for trespassing at her home in 2025. The new court order requires him to stay at least 100 yards away from Spears until 2030.
Spears has faced legal challenges before, including a 2007 incident in Los Angeles where she was accused of an alleged hit-and-run with a parked car. “The charges were later dismissed after I compensated the owner,” she recalled in past interviews, highlighting how she has navigated difficult situations throughout her career.
The singer is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on May 4 to address her current DUI citation. Following the incident, Spears deactivated her social media accounts, which have been a key way for her to connect with fans over the years.
On a more positive note, Spears recently reached a major financial milestone by selling the rights to her music catalog to Primary Wave. The deal, reportedly worth $200 million, gives her complete financial independence after her conservatorship ended in 2021.
Although she has stepped back from regular performances in the U.S., Spears has hinted at a new, mysterious project and expressed interest in performing internationally in places like the U.K. or Australia. She has made it clear, however, that she does not plan to perform in the U.S. again.
In addition, a film adaptation of her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, is in early development at Universal Pictures. Jon M. Chu, director of Wicked, is attached to the project, and Spears is expected to be closely involved in its creative process.
Fans have already speculated on casting choices, suggesting Ariana Grande or Sabrina Carpenter for the lead role, though production is still in its earliest stages and a release isn’t expected before 2027 or 2028.
Beyond her professional projects, Spears continues to focus on her personal healing and raising her two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James. She often shares that dance and other creative outlets are central to how she manages her life and maintains her freedom.
