Callina Liang Turns Heads in a Dramatic Ruffled Mini Dress at the ‘Street Fighter’ Mexico City Fan Event
Few video game franchises have a fan base as devoted as ‘Street Fighter‘, and few cities embrace a movie campaign quite like Mexico City. With the long-awaited live-action film just days from its theatrical release, the cast has been taking the show on the road. The latest stop gave fans in the Mexican capital a chance to meet some of the stars in person.
The film is set in 1993 and follows the estranged fighters Ryu and Ken Masters, who are brought back together when Chun-Li recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament. A deeper conspiracy then threatens the competition and forces the former friends to confront their pasts. Directed by Kitao Sakurai, it stars Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo and Jason Momoa.

Among the cast members at the event, one appearance stood out. Callina Liang, who plays Chun-Li, walked the ‘Street Fighter’ backdrop in a ruffled mini dress with a sculpted, wing-like collar and a sheer, textured bodice. She finished the look with her hair in a high bun and black strappy heels.
The dress seems to change character under the lights, looking like a sheer black design in some shots and a shimmering metallic blue in others. It is one outfit, and the shifting shades only add to the drama. Against the fiery red and orange branding of the film, the look made a striking impression.

The fan gathering took place on Thursday, Oct. 8, at Cinépolis Universidad in Mexico City, and fans could meet part of the film’s talent in person. Liang was joined by Koji, Centineo, Momoa, Cody Rhodes and director Sakurai. Local outlets ran ticket giveaways in the lead-up, with a double pass as the prize.
Mexico is part of a wider promotional run, and reports indicate the tour also includes stops in New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Amsterdam and London. So far, Mexico is the only Spanish-speaking country in Latin America confirmed on the itinerary, which makes the stop especially meaningful for local fans.
Sakurai, known for ‘Bad Trip’, took over directing duties after Danny and Michael Philippou left the project. That change added a layer of curiosity around the film, and the cast’s public appearances have become a way for fans to gauge the mood. So far, the energy at the events has looked celebratory rather than cautious.
Liang is a Canadian actress who landed the role of Chun-Li after earlier work in smaller films and television. Her breakout performance came in Steven Soderbergh’s film ‘Presence’, which premiered at Sundance in 2024. She has also appeared in the thriller ‘Bad Genius’ and has a recurring role on Apple TV+’s ‘Foundation’.
Her casting was reported by Deadline, and Legendary Pictures was behind the decision. One outlet said she fits the role visually, which is no small compliment for a character who has been part of the franchise since ‘Street Fighter II’.

Liang is surrounded by one of the most eclectic ensembles in recent memory. Koji plays Ryu, Centineo plays Ken, Rhodes plays Guile and Momoa plays Blanka. The cast also includes Orville Peck as Vega, 50 Cent as Balrog, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Roman Reigns as Akuma and Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki.
That list includes wrestlers, rappers and comedians, which suits a franchise built on colorful fighters. It also suggests the movie plans to lean into fan service as much as story, with plenty of recognizable faces for audiences to spot.
The film comes from Legendary Entertainment and Paramount Pictures, with Capcom as a co-producer. It opens in Mexico on Oct. 15, a day before the US release on Oct. 16, which explains why the cast has been so active in the country this week.
For Liang, the premiere season is a major milestone, since she moves from indie darling to leading a blockbuster franchise. If the fan event is any indication, she is ready for the spotlight, and the fashion is certainly keeping pace.
What do you think of Callina Liang’s dramatic look at the Street Fighter fan event?
