Callina Liang’s Viral ‘Street Fighter’ Egg Run Is the Best Kind of Method Promo

Method acting used to mean losing yourself in a character’s psychology, but for the cast of ‘Street Fighter‘, it’s apparently meant grocery runs built entirely around leg day. Legendary’s live-action adaptation has leaned hard into behind-the-scenes physical transformation stories as its marketing hook, and its Chun-Li star just gave fans a genuinely funny glimpse of what that commitment looks like off camera.

Callina Liang, who takes on the role of Chun-Li in the film, has spent months talking about the extreme lengths she went to physically prepare for the part, previously revealing she grew her thighs by 6.5 centimeters through a demanding mix of martial arts training and an aggressive bulking diet. That diet reportedly involved eating twelve eggs a day, a detail that’s clearly become something of a running joke in her promotional rollout for the movie.

That joke played out in a new clip Liang posted herself, showing her filling up a shopping basket at a convenience store while dressed for press. She captioned the post “anything for Chun-Li’s legs I guess,” accompanied by an egg emoji and the film’s official hashtag, tying the moment directly back to her now well-documented bulking regimen.

The official ‘Street Fighter’ movie account didn’t let the moment pass quietly either, replying directly to Liang’s post with its own bit of playful confirmation: “Chun-Li doesn’t skip egg day.” The exchange turned what could’ve been a routine press-tour clip into a genuinely shareable piece of franchise marketing, with the studio’s own social team leaning into the joke rather than treating it as an afterthought.

That kind of playful callback only works because the underlying story has real substance behind it. Liang has described training in Taekwondo, Muay Thai and Wushu for roughly two hours a day while preparing for the role, alongside a diet overhaul that reportedly left her on the verge of getting sick from how frequently she was forced to eat. She’s also said she studied Chun-Li’s in-game movements frame by frame, downloading every available version of the games to recreate the character’s signature kicks as accurately as possible.

Turning that grueling process into a lighthearted grocery-store moment shows a level of self-awareness that’s helped keep Liang’s promotional content feel more personal than the usual studio-approved press stops. Rather than distancing herself from the more intense details of her transformation, she’s using them as the punchline, which seems to be resonating with fans following her ‘Street Fighter’ press run closely.

With the film’s official account now actively playing along in the comments, this kind of interaction is likely to keep showing up as release day gets closer. ‘Street Fighter’ is set to hit theaters on October 16, bringing Liang’s egg-fueled Chun-Li transformation to the screen alongside an ensemble that includes Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Roman Reigns and Jason Momoa.

Between the viral egg jokes and the genuine physical dedication behind them, Liang’s promotional run has managed to make her transformation story feel both impressive and relatable at the same time.
