Cameron Diaz (53) Returns to the Spotlight With New Rom Com Filming in NYC
Cameron Diaz is back on set, and this time she’s filming a brand-new romantic comedy in New York City. The actress was spotted on March 19, shooting scenes near the Hudson River alongside her co-star Stephen Merchant. Photos and reports from the set showed the two actors working through different scenes as the city buzzed around them.
Diaz, now 53, was first seen wearing a gray coat with a soft pink top and jeans, giving off a polished but relaxed look. Later in the day, she changed into a black leather trench coat with a bright blue scarf as the weather cooled. Merchant, 51, also had a few outfit changes, starting in a navy jacket and later switching to a tan coat.
According to early details about the film, the story follows a British man working at a luxury hotel in Manhattan. Merchant plays this character, who finds himself needing a wife to keep up appearances.
That’s when he meets Diaz’s character, a struggling comedian who agrees to the arrangement because she needs health insurance. What starts as a deal slowly turns into something real.
Merchant is not just acting in the movie. He is also directing it and worked on the script with John Butler. The film is expected to mix humor with romance, combining his usual style with a classic rom-com feel.
For Diaz, this project is another step in her return to acting after spending years away from Hollywood. Fans have been excited to see her back, especially in a genre that made her famous.
She has also been working on other projects, including the Apple TV+ film Outcome with Jonah Hill and Keanu Reeves. She recently starred in Back in Action, where she reunited with Jamie Foxx.
Merchant has also been busy with his own work. He recently gained attention for his series The Outlaws and has continued to build his career both in front of and behind the camera. His style often focuses on awkward and relatable situations, which seems to fit well with this new story.
Filming for the rom-com is expected to continue in different parts of New York over the next few weeks. People who saw the actors on set have already started talking about their chemistry, which could be a big part of the film’s appeal.
With Diaz returning to romantic comedies and Merchant leading both on screen and behind the scenes, the project is already getting attention. Many are hoping it will bring back the kind of fun, city-based love stories that have been popular for years.
