Jai Courtney Will Return

It looks like I’ve been made out to be a liar. After saying that only Harley Quinn and Deadshot would be returning in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, Jai Courtney has revealed that his character is coming back to. That’s right, like him or not Captain Boomerang will return in The Suicide Squad. Now, his role or how much screen time he will receive is up for debate. But nonetheless, he will be back.

Captain Boomerang last appeared alongside the aforementioned Harley Quinn and Deadshot as well as Slipknot, Diablo, Killer Croc, Katana, and The Enchantress in 2016s Suicide Squad. In an interview with Business Insider, Courtney said this of his return, “We’re getting ready to shoot in a few months’ time. There’s not much else I can reveal about it but, yeah, you’ll be seeing Boomerang back for sure.”

Because Captain Boomerang will return, it all but guarantees that the film will not be a total reboot of the series. After Suicide Squad became a commercial success, a sequel was never in question. What was in question was what direction it would go. After all, while it was a commercial success, it was critically panned by both fans and critics.

After his firing by Marvel, James Gunn was brought in to fix this. His hiring gave immediate credibility to the franchise.

As you well know, he brought instant fame to some of the most obscure characters that Marvel has to offer. Under his watch and direction characters like Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Star-Lord, and Gamora became household names. His work even solidified itself in pop culture history. If not for him the words “I am Groot” would not mean what they do today. Warner Bros. and DC are hoping that he can duplicate his magic with The Suicide Squad.

The Suicide Squad is scheduled to hit theatres in the summer of 2021.

Cheers,

Joel
