Catherine Zeta-Jones’ Daughter (23) Turns Up the Heat in Sheer Red Beaded Dress in Madrid
Red has long been Catherine Zeta-Jones’ signature color, and her daughter seems to have taken notes. Carys Zeta Douglas has been quietly building a reputation as a style star in her own right, and her latest red-carpet moment adds another chapter.
The 23-year-old is the daughter of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, and she graduated from Brown University in 2025 after studying film and international studies. She worked as a second assistant director on ‘August’ in 2022 and appeared in a few projects in 2024. Fashion has always run alongside that, from a 2019 Fendi campaign with her mother to a string of borrowed vintage looks.
Those borrowed looks have become a signature. Carys wore her mother’s black lace-accented dress from the 2005 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to a New York gala with Michael in October 2025, and she wore her mother’s pink and white Ungaro dress for her 21st birthday.
On Thursday, Oct. 15, Carys arrived at the ELLE x Hope gala at Madrid’s Palacio de Santoña in a red embellished dress that had the Spanish press talking. Europa Press noted that she grabbed everyone’s attention at the photocall, and Infobae called her one of the evening’s big stars.
The gown was a sheer, floral-beaded design in shades of red, with a scoop neckline, slim straps and a fitted silhouette. She paired it with a black velvet clutch with gold hardware, small gold hoop earrings and loose, tousled waves. A glossy red lip and rosy cheeks kept the makeup fresh.
An Italian outlet praised the look for its elegance and freshness, saying the entrance redefined the idea of a triumphant arrival. It’s a long way from a simple pairing of her mother’s old dresses, and it shows Carys experimenting with a more modern, sparkling take on the family’s favorite color.
It was also a first for her. The gala marked her first event in Spain, and she told reporters she loves the country, its culture and its history. She said Mallorca is important to her and her family, but that she needs to see more of Spain. Michael Douglas was at the first ‘Mallorca, Land of Honour’ awards with Carys on Aug. 3.
She also called her parents hard workers and said she is proud of them. She isn’t thinking about following them into acting for now, and the best advice they’ve given her is to believe in herself. She admitted she can be a little shy.
ELLE x Hope is the Spanish edition of ELLE’s annual charity gala. This year’s event was the sixth edition, organized to raise awareness of cancer and money for projects of the Spanish Association Against Cancer. Eva González has served as its host, and the ELLE Hope Award honors people with an outstanding commitment to the fight against cancer.
The guest list on Oct. 15 included singers James Blunt and Joan Manuel Serrat, plus González, Isabel Jiménez, Almudena Cid, Raquel Perera and Iñaki Gabilondo, according to Europa Press. Past editions have been held at both the Teatro Real and the Palacio de Santoña.
The gala has also produced emotional moments. In 2024, journalist Sara Carbonero spoke publicly for the first time about her cancer while receiving an award, a speech that moved many in the room.
For Carys, the evening mixed charity and style. A dress that nods to her mother’s love of red, but with her own youthful twist, suggests she is finding a fashion identity that is entirely hers. If this is any indication, she will keep turning heads long after the Madrid photocall.
