Chace Crawford Says Old Friend Reached Out After 20 Years With Wild ‘The Boys’ Request
Chace Crawford had a funny story after debuting a new The Boys season 5 prop that turned his character, The Deep, into a popcorn bucket. The moment came up during his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where the actor presented the unusual in-show merchandise inspired by his superhero character.
The item, called the “Secrets of Atlantis” popcorn bucket, was brought out on stage by Jimmy Fallon. The audience reacted loudly as soon as it appeared. The bucket is designed with The Deep’s face, with popcorn filled inside his open mouth, making it both strange and comedic at the same time.
Crawford said, “That is, it looks just like me, it’s crazy,” reacting to how closely the design matched his character from the Amazon series. The actor also pointed out how the popcorn was actually placed inside the mouth of the bucket version of The Deep.
As Fallon reached in to grab some popcorn, Crawford reacted again with laughter and said, “That’s embarrassing.” The moment got a big response from the studio audience and added to the playful tone of the interview.
Despite the awkward humor of the prop, Crawford admitted that the item had become popular with fans. He explained that “People really want” the bucket, showing that the fictional product from the show had already gained real-world attention. He also revealed the most insane anecdote, claiming that a friend he hasn’t talked to in 20 years hit him up asking for the bucket.
“I got a text from like a college buddy, 20-22 years ago, who I haven’t spoken to since, said, ‘I need that popcorn bucket”
The popcorn bucket itself was introduced in episode 6 of the latest season of The Boys. In the episode, the series takes aim at movie theater culture and advertising, including a parody of AMC Theatres and its famous Nicole Kidman promotional ad. The fictional cinema in the show is called VMC Theatres, a clear reference to AMC.
In the storyline, the anti-supe group investigates a former Vought executive who now works in the cinema industry. During this plotline, viewers see a satirical advertisement featuring Firecracker, who explains the appeal of moviegoing and Vought’s merchandise, including the new Deep popcorn bucket.
The in-universe ad mirrors real-world marketing styles and even echoes the tone of well-known cinema commercials. It also promotes the popcorn bucket as part of a larger combo deal tied to a fictional movie called Deep: Secrets of Atlantis.

Following the episode, Vought International’s official social media account also joined in on the joke. The account promoted the popcorn bucket with a mock advertisement, writing, “Introducing the Deepest popcorn bucket ever created,” and adding, “Stick your hand in to get a fistful of hot, buttery popcorn ready to make your screening of Deep: Secrets of Atlantis even more dope.”
The post continued with another line, “Available exclusively at VMC Theatres, not included with ticket purchase!” The fake campaign added to the satirical world-building that The Boys is known for, blending real marketing styles with its over-the-top superhero universe.
Fans online reacted quickly, with many sharing jokes and praise for the idea. Some called it one of the most memorable fake movie tie-in products in the series so far, while others said it felt exactly like something a corporate superhero world would actually sell.
