‘Chad Powers’ first debuted on Hulu in 2025, following Powell’s character Russ Holliday, a hotshot quarterback whose bad behavior derails his college career, forcing him to disguise himself and walk onto a struggling Southern football program as the affable, talented Chad Powers. The show quickly became a breakout hit, earning Powell Best Actor nominations at both the Golden Globes and Satellite Awards.

That success paved the way for a swift Season 2 renewal, and showrunner Michael Waldron has now confirmed the series is officially returning to Hulu this fall. Speaking about the update, Waldron told Deadline he was proud to continue his partnership with Disney, using the opportunity to remind fans directly that Chad Powers Season 2 is coming to Hulu this fall.

That confirmation arrived alongside news that Waldron has renewed his overall deal with 20th Television, ensuring he’ll remain closely involved with the franchise going forward. He’s set to return for Season 2 not just as showrunner, but also as director for four of the season’s six episodes, including both the premiere and finale.

Powell reprises his role as Russ Holliday for another shot at redemption, picking up right where Season 1 left off on a genuinely tense cliffhanger. The first season ended with Ricky, played by Perry Mattfeld, discovering Russ’s true identity, only for him to threaten that exposing the deception would jeopardize both the team’s season and her father’s reputation as head coach.

That dynamic between Russ and Ricky is expected to remain central to Season 2’s storyline, with Waldron previously outlining an ambitious long-term vision for the series. He’s described wanting three total seasons to fully tell the story, following the South Georgia Catfish through a complete football season while citing ‘Breaking Bad’ as inspiration for the show’s escalating, consequence-driven structure.

Filming on Season 2 officially began back in January, with the show’s social media accounts sharing an early first-look image of Powell back in character, teasing his return before an official trailer had even been released. That image showed Powell holding his Chad Powers disguise, hinting at how central the character’s dual identity will remain to the new episodes.

Season 1’s supporting cast, including Mattfeld, Quentin Plair, Wynn Everett, Frankie A. Eli Manning, whose original ESPN+ sketch inspired the series, previously guest-starred in Season 1 and continues serving as an executive producer alongside his brother Peyton Manning.
