Six years after the world lost Chadwick Boseman, the ‘Black Panther’ star’s legacy has become the center of an increasingly bitter family dispute. She also says she voluntarily gave $300,000 of her own money to Derrick’s children.
The numbers are her direct response to a petition Derrick and Kevin filed back in July, accusing her of failing to distribute the remaining half of the estate despite a 2022 court order compelling her to do so . That original filing claimed Ledward Boseman had “never fully distributed” the assets owed to Chadwick’s parents and had kept the family “in the dark” about the estate’s finances . The brothers alleged she continued to “exert unilateral control” over the estate, denying their parents “closure or participation in decision-making” .
The estate itself is no small pot. Boseman’s assets reportedly include cash, an IRA account, and roughly $3.3 million in stock tied to Chadwick Boseman, Inc., along with royalties, residuals, and intellectual property rights connected to his image and legacy . Derrick and Kevin have argued there are additional undisclosed assets beyond what’s already been accounted for, including a previously unnamed bank account and outstanding SAG-AFTRA residual payments dating back to 2020 .
When the brothers first went public with their petition in July, they framed it as a fight for transparency rather than a personal attack, saying in a joint statement that their parents had “sought clarity regarding matters connected to the estate” for years and that the action was filed “on behalf of, and with the authority of” Leroy and Carolyn . The family added they would “respect the legal process while remaining focused on the facts set forth in the petition” .
Ledward Boseman, for her part, has not taken the accusations lying down. Alongside the new financial disclosures, she scoffed at the brothers’ claims, arguing that she has simply been carrying out her late husband’s wishes for how his estate should be handled .
