Channing Tatum’s New Gambit Voice for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Debuts in a Dunkin’ Ad, and It’s Easier to Understand
Few Marvel characters have waited as long for their moment as Gambit. Channing Tatum spent years trying to get a standalone movie made at 20th Century Fox, only to watch the project stall and eventually fall away after years in limbo.
When Gambit finally reached the big screen in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, he came with a running joke. Tatum’s thick Cajun drawl was deliberately hard to follow, with the character racing through his words as he ran across the Void.
Now Tatum’s Gambit voice for ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ has finally been revealed, and it arrived in an unexpected place: a Dunkin’ commercial. The “Munchkin Incursion” spot pairs Gambit with H.E.R.B.I.E., the robot from ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’, who explains the film’s plot in robot-speak as worlds from the Marvel multiverse collide.
“Doomsday is here, mon ami,” Gambit says in the ad, before asking H.E.R.B.I.E. whether he has any ideas up in that tin-can head of his. The delivery is still unmistakably Cajun, but it is noticeably clearer, a world away from the mile-a-minute mumbling of the earlier film.

The shift was not a surprise. Tatum told Variety that “I’m not gonna go full Cajun” in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, adding that studio executives had to wrap their minds around how audiences would understand him.
The Russo brothers, who direct the film, want to keep the drama intact instead of leaning fully into the comedy of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’. Tatum has also explained that the earlier accent was intentional. He said there was very little improv, and that Ryan Reynolds encouraged him to dial it all the way up so nobody could tell what he was saying.
Tatum has also said that his father is from New Orleans and that the accent has a big spectrum, which gave him room to find a version that works for both comedy and drama.

The commercial is part of a wider tie-in. Dunkin’ launched an ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ menu on Nov. 4 at participating locations nationwide, with six themed drinks, new and returning donuts, Munchkins and limited-edition merchandise.
Among the items is the Doomsday Donut, a returning Brownie Batter Donut topped with green and chocolate sprinkles inspired by Doctor Doom. The ad itself promotes the movie alongside Avenging Munchkins Donut Hole Treats.
The commercial also gives fans another look at H.E.R.B.I.E., whose design has already sparked debate. After the first full trailer arrived in July, fans noticed that the robot appeared with new eyes and an upgraded body shell compared with his debut in ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’.
Some viewers were not thrilled with the makeover, with many fans having loved the retro futuristic look of the earlier film. The upgrade may simply reflect the robot traveling across universes with the rest of the Fantastic Four, who arrive at the X-Mansion alongside the Avengers in the trailer.
Details about Gambit’s role remain under wraps, but the footage so far offers a clue. The trailer shows him squaring off against Shang-Chi in a duel, which marks one of the stranger matchups the franchise has teased.
Tatum has hinted that the part is physical. He told Variety he suffered an injury on set that left him taking pain medication and facing intensive physical therapy. That combination of action and a more understandable voice hints that Gambit could play a much bigger part than his cameo-sized role in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’.
The reveal is the latest chapter in a long journey. A deleted scene from ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ showed Gambit escaping as the Void was wiped out, which seemed to set up his return, and Marvel confirmed that he would appear in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ on March 26, 2025.
Now the character is part of an enormous ensemble that includes Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, the Fantastic Four and a group of returning X-Men. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens in US theaters on Dec. 18.
