Doctor Doom Takes His Throne in Japan With a Towering ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Statue
Marvel Studios has spent months making sure Doctor Doom is impossible to avoid. With Robert Downey Jr. stepping into the villain’s armor, the marketing for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has gone far beyond posters and trailers, spilling into cinemas, expos and city streets around the world.
That strategy has produced a growing list of physical displays. Marvel showed a giant replica of Doom’s throne at an expo in Shanghai, a giant Doom statue was unveiled in the city, and Argentina showed a statue inside a lit glass case that glows green.
Now Japan has gotten one of the biggest tributes yet. Photos shared online on Nov. 1 show a huge statue of Doctor Doom seated on his throne beside a modern building, and it has quickly become one of the most talked-about pieces of the campaign.

The display shows Doom in his metal mask and dark hooded cloak, with glowing green details on his armor. It stands on a wide, stepped white platform with the Marvel Studios logo at its base, and intricate details like chain mail add to the effect.
One photo shows a visitor in a green Doom-style cape posing at the foot of the display while holding a mask, which gives a sense of just how large the statue really is. Coverage has not named the exact location of the display, only that it stands in Japan.
The scale is part of the point. Marvel wants Doom to feel larger than life before the film arrives, and a statue towering over passersby does that better than a flat poster.

This isn’t the first Doom statue in the country. A smaller figure debuted in the lobby of 109 Cinemas Osaka Expo City as part of a decoration event themed around the eve of ‘Doomsday’, with the venue playfully asking visitors not to touch it so as not to anger him.
Japan also hosted a Doctor Doom parade in central Tokyo. Its centerpiece was a giant Doom float about 4.5 meters tall and weighing roughly 1.5 tons, followed by about 60 cloaked members of the so-called Doom Corps carrying Avengers flags.

Cosplayers dressed as Iron Man, Thor, Doctor Doom, Cyclops and Spider-Man led the way, and a marching band played the Avengers theme and the Marvel Studios fanfare. It was a theatrical stunt that matched the film’s scale.

The statue arrives alongside fresh promotional art. New posters have spotlighted Latverian characters like Boris and the witches, while new faction posters shown in Japan feature the film’s various heroic and villainous groups.

One Japanese poster drew attention for including the X-Men logo alongside the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and Wakandan characters. That reflects the film’s huge ensemble, which brings those teams together against Downey’s Doom.
For fans, the mix of statues, parades and posters is a reminder that the film’s marketing is aimed at every corner of its audience.
Not everyone can fit a giant throne in their living room, but collectors have options. Iron Studios and Sideshow have released a 1/10 scale ‘Doctor Doom on Throne’ statue priced at $249.99, along with a larger 1/4 scale Legacy Replica and a life-sized piece.
Beast Kingdom has also revealed a life-sized statue standing about 198 cm tall that is expected to ship in the fourth quarter of 2026. Together, the pieces show how widely Doom is being turned into a physical product.
