Christian Bale is known for going all in on his roles, but that level of focus has not always been easy to handle. One moment that still follows him today happened back in 2009 during the filming of Terminator Salvation.

During production, Bale got very angry on set when cinematographer Shane Hurlbut walked into his line of sight while he was acting. Audio of the incident was later leaked online, and it quickly spread across the internet.

In the recording, Bale can be heard shouting for several minutes and even threatening to leave the film if the situation is not handled. He later spoke about it in a public statement, which was widely reported at the time.

Looking back, he admitted he went too far and said, “I was out of order beyond belief. I make no excuses for it.” His apology was directed at the public, and many people noted that it did not directly address Hurlbut.

Bale has often said that he gets very deep into his characters, and that can affect how he behaves on set. His dedication is well known. For example, he once lost a huge amount of weight for The Machinist by eating very little each day. That kind of commitment has helped his career, but it has also made some projects harder for him.

In an interview with GQ, he opened up about times when he actually wanted to leave a film after filming had already started. He made it clear that he does not have the power to fire anyone, saying, “No one. I’m not in a position to fire anybody.”

Instead, he admitted that he has tried to remove himself from projects. He said, “I’ve pleaded to get fired! I’ve asked for that, and they wouldn’t.” In recent years, it seems like Bale has found better ways to deal with stress while working.

On the set of his new film, The Bride!, directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, he had to spend up to six hours a day in makeup to play Frankenstein’s monster. To deal with that, he started a routine where he would scream to release tension.

He even invited the crew to join him, turning it into a shared moment instead of a personal outburst. According to his own description of the set, this helped everyone relax and created a more positive environment.

Looking ahead, Bale is preparing for another major role. He will star alongside Nicolas Cage in a film called Madden, which tells the story of football coach John Madden. Bale will play Al Davis, the former owner of the Oakland Raiders.

Even after years in the industry, Bale continues to take on intense roles and challenge himself. His career includes both big blockbuster films and smaller projects, and he is still one of the most talked-about actors in Hollywood.
