AMC’s CEO Adam Aron addressed a difficult launch for The Odyssey premium ticket sales. Many fans trying to buy tickets for special screenings ran into problems on the AMC website and app.

People reported long waiting queues, frozen screens, and failed payment attempts. Some users said they had to wait a long time before they could finish a purchase, while others could not get through at all.

Aron responded directly on X and said he was sorry for the issues people experienced. He explained that the demand was extremely high and that it caused stress on the system. At the same time, he made it clear that the demand itself was unusually strong. He said that “The Odyssey recorded AMC’s highest first-day ticket sales for any studio-released movie title since 2022.”

He also reassured customers that there are still many seats available for future screenings. He said there are “MILLIONS more available seats,” suggesting that fans who missed out still have chances to buy tickets later. His message mixed an apology with a clear message that the film is already a major commercial success for AMC.

According to Aron, the only movies that performed better on their first day at AMC since 2022 were not traditional studio films. They were concert films released through AMC’s own distribution. He pointed to Beyoncé’s Renaissance concert film in 2023 and two Taylor Swift concert releases in 2023 and 2025. These events had massive fan demand and were treated more like cultural events than normal movie releases.

‘The Odyssey’ Budget Reveal Shows Christopher Nolan’s Biggest R-Rated Project Yet

Outside of those concert films, Aron said The Odyssey has outperformed all other studio movies in first-day ticket sales over the last several years. That puts the film in a very unusual position for a Hollywood release. It is competing in the same demand category as major music events rather than standard movie openings.

The ticket launch itself was chaotic. AMC had to pause its online queue system for a short time because too many people were trying to buy tickets at once. The rush was especially strong for premium formats like IMAX 70mm, IMAX, standard 70mm, 35mm film, RPX, and 4DX screenings. These formats have limited seats, which made demand even more intense. Many fans reported that they waited in queues for over an hour, only to face errors or checkout problems.

Despite the technical issues, Aron’s comments framed the situation as proof of how large the audience interest is. The strong demand suggests that The Odyssey is already shaping up to be one of the biggest film events of its release year.

The film itself is directed and written by Christopher Nolan and is scheduled to be released on July 17. It is an adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic about Odysseus and his long journey home after the Trojan War. The production is described as a large-scale project shot around the world using advanced IMAX film technology.

The cast includes several major actors such as Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, Jon Bernthal, and others. The film has been positioned as a major theatrical release built for large-format viewing.

Overall, AMC’s response shows two things at once. The ticketing system struggled under pressure, but the demand for The Odyssey was strong enough to place it alongside some of the biggest entertainment events in recent years.
