‘Citadel’ Season 2 Delayed, Spinoffs on Hold at Prime Video

The spy series Citadel, produced by Joe and Anthony Russo’s AGBO, is facing more problems. Originally planned as a major show for Amazon MGM, Citadel has had a rough production journey, with issues around budget and creative changes. Now, the second season of the show has been delayed.

Sources say that Amazon MGM has pushed the release of Citadel Season 2 from fall 2025 to spring 2026. Additionally, all planned spinoff shows connected to Citadel have been put on hold.

These spinoffs were meant to be in different countries, like Citadel: Diana in Italy and Citadel: Honey Bunny in India. These shows had done well in their local markets but are now paused until the second season of the main series is finished.

Amazon is reportedly unhappy with what they have seen of Season 2 so far. The company has not yet commented on the delay, and the Russo brothers’ AGBO has also stayed quiet on the issue.

When Citadel was first created, it was meant to be a flagship series with multiple international spinoffs. The show features Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas as spies traveling around the world.

However, the production of the series has faced several challenges. The first season went over budget by $75 million due to reshoots and crew changes, making it one of the most expensive TV shows ever made. Despite this, Amazon still gave the show a second season order before the first season even premiered in April 2023.

Now, with this latest delay, some insiders are wondering if Citadel might be in trouble. The show was originally supported by Jennifer Salke, the former head of Amazon MGM. She was the one who brought the Russo brothers on board for the project.

However, Salke was recently let go from her position, which has added more uncertainty around the show’s future. Vernon Sanders, the new head of TV, will now oversee Citadel, but the show’s future is unclear without the support of Salke.

The show has faced many hurdles, and it remains to be seen what happens next.
