Apple TV has officially released the first trailer for Season 2 of Sugar, confirming Colin Farrell’s return as private investigator John Sugar.

The new season of the neo-noir mystery series is set to premiere on June 19. It continues the story of John Sugar, a private detective working in Los Angeles who takes on cases that often pull him into personal and dangerous territory. In Season 2, Sugar is drawn into a new investigation involving the disappearance of a rising boxer’s older brother. At the same time, he continues searching for answers about his own missing sister, a storyline that has followed him since the first season.

The series was created by Mark Protosevich and first premiered on Apple TV+ in April 2024. The first season was directed by Fernando Meirelles and Adam Arkin and received generally positive reviews from critics. It also earned a nomination at the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards for Outstanding Cinematography in a Single-Camera Series. Following its release, Apple TV+ renewed the show in October 2024 due to strong reception and viewer interest.

Season 2 brings several new cast members into the story. According to Apple TV’s announcement and trailer release, the new additions include Jin Ha, Raymond Lee, Tony Dalton, Laura Donnelly, and Sasha Calle. Actor Shea Whigham also appears as a special guest star. Colin Farrell not only returns in the lead role but also continues to serve as an executive producer on the series.

The new season is being showrun by Sam Catlin, who also serves as an executive producer under his Short Drive Entertainment banner. Other executive producers include Audrey Chon, Simon Kinberg, Scott Greenberg, Chip Vucelich, and Colin Farrell himself.

The series is described as a modern take on the private detective genre set in Los Angeles, mixing classic noir style with emotional character-driven storytelling. At the center of it all is John Sugar, a private investigator originally hired by a wealthy film producer to find his missing granddaughter. That case set off a chain of events that revealed deeper mysteries tied to Sugar’s own life.

Season 2 appears to continue this pattern of blending personal and professional investigations. The trailer highlights Sugar working through a new case while still dealing with unresolved questions from his past. The dual storyline suggests that the upcoming season will expand both the world of the series and the emotional depth of its main character.

With the return of Colin Farrell and the addition of several new cast members, Season 2 of Sugar is shaping up to be a bigger and more complex chapter in the story. Based on Apple TV’s trailer and official information, the series will continue to build on its mix of mystery, character drama, and neo-noir atmosphere when it returns in June.
