James Bond has been played by many actors, and each one changed the character in some way. Over the years, Bond has been charming, funny, serious, and even dark. But when it comes to picking a favorite Bond movie, Daniel Craig looks back to the classics.

The Bond films began in the early 1960s with Sean Connery. Movies like Dr. No and Goldfinger helped shape who James Bond was supposed to be. Connery brought confidence, danger, and style to the role. For many fans, his version of Bond is still the standard.

After Connery, the role passed through several hands. George Lazenby only played Bond once. Roger Moore followed and took the character in a lighter direction, adding humor and over-the-top moments. Later, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan brought Bond back to a more serious tone, but still kept the larger-than-life feel.

Everything changed in 2006 when Daniel Craig stepped into the role with Casino Royale. His Bond was rougher and more human. He got hurt, made mistakes, and showed real emotional damage. Some fans loved this grounded version, while others missed the fun and fantasy of earlier films.

Even though Craig helped redefine Bond for a new generation, he has always shown respect for the older movies. In an interview with GQ, Craig revealed that his favorite James Bond film is Goldfinger from 1964. He explained that while he has a soft spot for Dr. No, Goldfinger is the movie where Sean Connery truly became Bond as the world knows him.

Goldfinger is often seen as the perfect Bond movie. It introduced many of the elements people now expect from the series. The villain Auric Goldfinger became iconic, and the danger felt real but stylish. The movie also delivered one of the most famous lines in the franchise when Bond hears I expect you to die.

Critics and fans have praised Goldfinger for decades. Many say it balances action, suspense, and charm better than any other entry. While Craig’s Casino Royale is often ranked very high for its emotional depth, Goldfinger remains the most recognizable Bond film of all time.

Craig has now moved on from the role after No Time to Die. He found success again with Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, which premiered on Netflix in late 2025. He returned as detective Benoit Blanc alongside stars like Glenn Close and Josh O’Connor.

Looking ahead, Craig is also expected to appear in Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, a new fantasy film based on the C S Lewis book. The project is part of a major reboot and includes actors like Carey Mulligan and Emma Mackey.
