David Corenswet Opens Up About His ‘Superman’ Diet and the Importance of Bulking Up: “I just wanted to be bigger”
2025 promises to be an exciting year for DC Studios. While ‘Creature Commandos’ is set to release this December, both Gunn and Safran have previously indicated that ‘Superman’ will serve as the true launch of the DCU.
With this new cinematic universe comes a new actor for Superman. Although many fans were disheartened by Cavill losing his role as the Man of Steel, the release of the first photos showcasing Corenswet’s transformation into a superhero quickly quieted the critics.
In his recent interview with ‘Manly Things (Sort Of)‘ podcast, Corenswet opened up regarding his past roles, and his previous experiences of bulking up, notably for a TV series ‘Hollywood.’
According to the actor, he had a really short period of time to bulk up, and relied on nutritional blunders to become relatively big in a short period of time:
I just wanted to be bigger. I think I was about to do Hollywood in 2019, or yeah, right before I left it would have been Hollywood…I had a month before we started shooting, so I was doing everything I could in that month, which wasn’t going to be very much.
Greek yogurt on top! I mean, that was before I understood what eating was. I thought that I was trying to eat a lot of food back in 2019 when I was trying to get from like 190 to 195.
Now his journey for Superman transformation was in large part done in a professional setting following the correct steps. Paolo Mascitti served as his personal trainer and he revealed that the actor was on an insane amount of calories per day:
He was on around 6,000 calories a day and his diet was strict, but not as strict as I would have liked.
In the podcast, he shared details about his diet, describing it as a “normal person setting” with three meals a day supplemented by protein shakes. He also mentioned snacking on a carton of Greek yogurt before bed.
Corenswet also revealed that he didn’t fit into any of his pants at some point:
I wasn’t 238 (pounds) when we started shooting. I was 238 at my max. I didn’t fit into any of my pants.
In any case, we still look forward to seeing Corenswet as Superman and we will get the opportunity relatively soon as the movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
