‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Returns With a Trailer That Pits Dexter Against Two Killers and a Midlife Crisis
Dexter Morgan has survived a lot in 20 years. He has outlived a Miami Metro police career, a fake death, a small-town hideout and a bullet to the chest. Now the character who has stalked screens since the original series premiered faces a new kind of enemy, and Paramount+ has just given fans a first official look at the next chapter of ‘Dexter: Resurrection’.
The franchise has had a remarkable second life. The original ‘Dexter’ ran for 8 seasons before Michael C. Hall returned for ‘Dexter: New Blood’ in 2021. ‘Dexter: Resurrection’, created for Paramount+ with Showtime, followed on July 11, 2025, with showrunner Clyde Phillips guiding the character back to New York.
On Oct. 1, Paramount+ released the first official trailer for the second season, and DiscussingFilm’s post sharing the news passed 68,000 views. The footage builds on a 40-second teaser that arrived in September, which showed Dexter at an optical store getting his eyes checked before a montage of him sharpening weapons. The tagline in that teaser promised he is back and sharper than ever.
The second season premieres on Friday, Oct. 30, exclusively on Paramount+ with the Premium Plan. The date lands just in time for Halloween and the franchise’s 20th anniversary.

The official logline finds Dexter caught between 2 killers. One is notorious, with decades of kills behind him, while the other is a fresh young face terrorizing New York in ways no one anticipated. Dexter also battles what Paramount+ calls his greatest enemy yet, a midlife crisis.
Phillips has confirmed that the new season picks up 3 years after the first. That time jump helps explain the theme of aging in the marketing. It also leaves room for Dexter’s son, Harrison, played by Jack Alcott, to grow into a more central figure.
Hall returns as Dexter alongside Uma Thurman, who reprises her role as Charley, a former special ops officer turned security chief. Photos released over the summer hinted at an unexpected bond developing between her and Dexter. Alcott is back as Harrison, and James Remar returns as Harry Morgan.
New series regulars include Brian Cox as Don Framt, otherwise known as the New York Ripper, plus Dan Stevens as Owen Stark and Bokeem Woodbine as Captain Mixon. Nona Parker Johnson joins as Fiona Mixon, a training officer in the NYPD homicide department who becomes Harrison’s new love interest. Gabriel Luna guest stars as serial killer Ray Ballard, code-named the Sleepy-Eyed Stranger.
The returning list also includes Desmond Harrington as Joey Quinn, whose first appearance in the sequel series marks a reunion with the old Miami Metro days. Krysten Ritter returns in a guest role as Mia “Lady Vengeance” Lapierre. Cox’s character is described as no longer active as a killer but still living off his infamy by taunting the survivors of his long-ago killing spree.
The first season gave the franchise a big boost. It opened with 3.1 million cross-platform viewers over its first weekend, which Paramount+ called the most-streamed premiere in Showtime history, up 46% from ‘Dexter: Original Sin’. Critics responded too, with Rotten Tomatoes reporting a fresh score of 95% from 59 reviews.
The 10-episode run ended on Sept. 5, 2025, with a heartbreaking turn for the character, and Paramount+ renewed the show in October 2025. Production on the second season began this spring, when Hall announced on Instagram that filming was underway. Director Marcos Siega has also been involved in preparing the new episodes.
For fans, the trailer offers a mix of dark humor and fresh menace, which has long been the franchise’s formula. The pairing of Hall and Cox alone is likely to generate plenty of buzz before the premiere. With about a month until Halloween night, expect more promotional material soon.
