Doctor Doom Gets a Chilling Close-Up in New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Figure Photos
Few casting announcements have shaken the Marvel Cinematic Universe like Robert Downey Jr. returning as Doctor Doom. The surprise came at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, when Marvel revealed that the Russo brothers would direct ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ and that Downey would trade Iron Man’s armor for Latveria’s mask. Ever since, fans have been hungry for any glimpse of how the Doctor Doom costume will look on screen.
With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set to open on Dec. 18, that hunger is only growing. The first full trailer arrived in July, but Marvel has not released a full public reveal of Downey’s Doom costume in a trailer, which has left collectibles to do some of the early wardrobe work. That is exactly why a fresh batch of figure photos is generating so much buzz.
On Oct. 2, MCU Film News shared a new look at a Doctor Doom figure from the film. The images show a hooded, cloaked figure bathed in green light, with a dark metallic mask peering out from beneath the hood. A silver clasp and chain fasten the cloak, and one hand is raised in a dramatic spellcasting pose against a gothic, green-lit window.

The design appears to match Hot Toys’ Victor Von Doom 1/6 scale collectible figure, which the company revealed earlier this fall. Hot Toys describes it as capturing Doom cloaked for a journey beyond borders, with a newly crafted helmeted head featuring separate rolling eyeballs to capture his calculated gaze. The cloak has bendable wire for dynamic posing and is secured by a magnetic silver-colored clasp and a metal chain.
Doom’s outfit also includes a dark green tunic, a belt with a rectangular buckle, pants and long boots. The set comes with multiple interchangeable hands and effects, including translucent green flames and hands surrounded by green and black krackle effects, depicting Doom channeling mystic power.
The figure is more than a collectible, since it offers a hint at the movie’s wardrobe. The Hot Toys figure appears to resemble what Doom was wearing in the mid-credits scene of ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps.’ Hot Toys specifically identifies this version as Victor Von Doom, and there don’t appear to be any visible scars around his eyes.
It also confirms that Doom will appear in at least two distinct looks, although the film itself hasn’t revealed when either costume appears. Hot Toys had earlier unveiled an armored Doctor Doom figure at San Diego Comic-Con in July, along with a figure of Doom’s throne. Downey also developed his own backstory for the character and contributed costume ideas, according to production details.

The Victor Von Doom figure is limited to 3,000 pieces, with pre-orders coming to Sideshow.com. Pricing for this alternate costume hasn’t been confirmed. Hot Toys’ earlier armored figure was offered in an Ultimate Version that includes an LED light-up diorama base shaped like a Sentinel’s outstretched hand.
Doom collectibles are plentiful across price ranges. Hasbro’s 6-inch Marvel Legends Doctor Doom retails for $27.99, while Iron Studios’ 1:4 scale figure is $1,299.99 and arrives in spring 2027. LEGO is also releasing a New Avengers Tower set with 954 pieces, including a Doctor Doom minifigure.
The film brings together the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers and X-Men to face Doctor Doom. Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers for the first time since ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ and the lineup includes Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier alongside Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Tom Hiddleston and many more. The four Avengers films to date have made more than $7.7 billion at the box office.
‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ follows on Dec. 17, 2027, which means Doom’s story is only beginning.
