Doctor Doom Takes Over an Argentine Theater as ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Marketing Goes Global
With ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ only a couple of months away, Marvel has been filling theaters, expos and merchandise shelves with Victor von Doom. The latest Doctor Doom statue display in Argentina is the newest example of how heavily the studio is leaning on its villain. It also shows how global the rollout has become.
The campaign has been building for months. Marvel showed a giant replica of Doom’s throne at an expo in Shanghai and later brought a version to the Philippines. More recently, a giant Doctor Doom statue was unveiled in Shanghai, drawing attention for its size.
In the United States, an AMC theater standee placed Robert Downey Jr.’s Doom front and center on his throne, with the tagline “12.18.26 is Doomsday.” Cinemark has also revealed merchandise that includes a Doctor Doom head popcorn bucket with glowing green eyes and a collectible cup showing the villain on his throne. Pop Secret, which has partnered with Marvel Studios for the film, released crisp new key art of Doom, and a Hot Toys figure and costume display gave fans an up-close look at the armor.
Now the display has reached Argentina. A theater there is showing a statue of Doctor Doom with his arms crossed inside a lit glass case topped with the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ logo. The case glows green, and a circular sigil is printed on the floor around it. A sign at the base reads “16 de diciembre, solo en cines,” which means the film opens there on December 16.

The figure wears Doom’s silver armor with a dark green hooded cloak, a wide belt with a square buckle and a metal mask whose eyes glow green. Its crossed-arms stance gives it a commanding, almost regal presence. That matches how the studio has been presenting him: as a ruler with a throne rather than just a masked villain.
The green lighting is part of the film’s visual identity, too. Marvel’s teaser poster used green mist around a hooded, armored figure, and the Avengers logo has appeared in green in promotional art. Together with the sigil on the floor, the display looks designed to feel like stepping into Doom’s world.
It’s no accident that the villain is the face of the marketing. Robert Downey Jr., who spent years as Tony Stark, plays Victor von Doom, and the casting was announced in July 2024 along with the return of the Russo brothers. Downey developed his own backstory for the character and contributed costume ideas.
Joe Russo has described Doom as one of Marvel’s most complex characters, always 3 moves ahead. The trailer that debuted at CinemaCon in April reached the public in July, and a new look arrived at D23 in August, showing Doom fighting the Avengers and blasting Thor with green energy. A recent ‘Silence Your Phones’ theater promo also showed Doom’s powers rendered with Jack Kirby’s crackling energy dots, known as Kirby Krackle, in live action for the first time.
Licensed merchandise has even hinted at a new name. Funko collectibles from a Concept Series collection label the character Lord Doom, pointing to his royal status and his connection to Latveria. That version shows a green military-style uniform with gold detailing rather than heavy armor, though it’s unclear how that will play out in the film.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ hits U.S. theaters on December 18, 2026, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, in their first MCU film since ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in 2019. Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely wrote the script, and the film was originally scheduled for early May 2026 before moving to December. Its sequel, ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ is set for December 17, 2027.
The cast spans multiple franchises. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn lead the Fantastic Four, while Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh and Paul Rudd are among the Avengers. Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen return from the X-Men world, and a teaser confirmed that Chris Evans will return as Steve Rogers.
Marvel describes the story as heroes from 3 distinct universes set on a deadly collision course against an existential threat. With statues, standees and popcorn buckets appearing worldwide, the studio is clearly betting on the spectacle of Doom’s arrival. Fans in Argentina just got their own piece of it.
