Doctor Doom’s LEGO Figure May Have Just Revealed a Massive ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Secret
Marvel has kept Robert Downey Jr.’s version of Doctor Doom locked in the shadows for longer than almost any villain in the franchise’s history. Four trailers have come and gone for ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ without a clear look at the character, leaving fans to piece together his design from scraps rather than official reveals.
That scarcity has turned toy leaks into an unlikely goldmine of information. Between Hasbro action figures surfacing through overseas retailers and a brief, shadow-drenched cameo in the post-credits scene of ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps,’ merchandise has done far more heavy lifting than any studio-approved marketing so far.
The latest piece of that puzzle points to something much bigger than a costume detail. According to leaker reporting, an upcoming LEGO set tied to the film is rumored to include not just one Doctor Doom figure but multiple versions of the character, each sporting a different colored mask and cloak, hinting that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ may feature several distinct Doctor Doom variants on screen.
That lines up with earlier reporting suggesting the film will introduce at least two female Doctor Doom variants, one wearing a purple cloak with a golden mask and another dressed in gold from head to toe, alongside the traditional green and silver version fans already expect from the comics. A rumored LEGO set pitting Doctor Doom against Thor is said to include one of these female variants rendered as a mech, adding physical scale to the concept.
The idea of multiple Doctor Doom variants fits naturally into a story built around a multiverse collision. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is expected to bring together heroes from three separate universes, and a villain capable of existing in more than one form across those realities would track with the scale the Russo Brothers appear to be building toward.
It also helps explain why Marvel has been so tight lipped about the character’s design despite the intense fan curiosity. Revealing even one version of Doom prematurely could give away exactly how many variants exist and what role each one plays in the larger story, something the studio has clearly been trying to avoid across every trailer released so far.
The Doctor Doom minifigure at the center of the latest leak is tied to a rumored 379 piece bust set, expected to arrive sometime around September ahead of the film’s December release, and closely matches design details already seen in earlier Hasbro leaks, including the character’s dark green hooded cloak and silver iron mask. Whether the finished set includes any of the alternate colored variants directly remains to be seen, though the timing puts it just months ahead of the film hitting theaters.
For a character defined by control and obsession, there is something fitting about fans assembling his look one leaked plastic piece at a time rather than through any grand studio reveal. Every new toy image has become its own small event, with collectors and casual fans alike scrutinizing every accessory for hints about the plot.
Do you think Avengers: Doomsday will feature multiple versions of Doctor Doom?
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ arrives in theaters on December 18, bringing together the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men against what has been described as an existential threat spanning multiple universes. Until Marvel decides to show its hand, it looks like LEGO boxes may keep doing the studio’s job for it.
