Doechii is stirring up the internet with her unfiltered thoughts about cats, and she isn’t backing down from the conversation. The Grammy-winning rapper, whose real name is Jaylah Hickmon, shared her opinions on Threads earlier this week, sparking reactions from pet lovers everywhere.

The rapper didn’t hold back, saying that people act like it’s a crime to dislike cats when they genuinely aren’t friendly animals. She explained that cats are far less domestic than many believe and suggested that they should just be left alone.

She even added that it’s rare for cats to be immediately affectionate without years of effort and patience from their owners. Doechii also joked about the physical side of cat ownership, noting that many people spend more time scratched and beaten up by their pets than enjoying their company.

When fans shared stories of affectionate cats that act like dogs, she argued that such cats had to rely on imitating the behaviors of another animal to be seen as friendly and affectionate. Despite the backlash, she made sure to compliment one fan’s cat on its pretty eyes, showing she isn’t entirely against felines.

“The world will be fine even if I think cats are mean,” she wrote, acknowledging that while some people have strong bonds with their pets, she personally doesn’t share that experience. Her post quickly went viral, with fans debating everything from cat behavior to whether her take was fair.

Outside of the cat debate, Doechii has been enjoying a huge year in music. She won her first Grammy in 2025 for Best Rap Album with her mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal, which critics praised for pushing boundaries and blending genres.

Her music video for Anxiety also went viral for its theatrical storytelling, and fans are eagerly waiting for her debut studio album, teased during her Live From The Swamp tour. Doechii is also branching into acting and the fashion world.

She received positive attention for her debut role in the 2023 film Earth Mama and has hinted at taking on more dramatic roles that let her show her versatility. Whether she’s dominating charts or sparking debates about pets, the Florida-born rapper remains one of the most open and intriguing figures in entertainment today.
