Dua Lipa is speaking up about how the Jeffrey Epstein case is being talked about in the media. During the March 15 episode of her Service95 podcast, she sat down with author Roxane Gay and shared her concerns about how the story is being presented to the public.

Lipa believes the language used in many reports takes away from the seriousness of what happened. “The way that the crimes have been reported, and the language that’s been used, has been doing such a disservice to all the victims,” she said during the conversation.

She pointed out that some coverage focuses on sensational details instead of the real issue. “I keep thinking about all the stories that talk about the underage girls and the s*x parties, rather than writing about the victims that were children who were trafficked,”* she explained.

According to Lipa, this kind of wording can make the situation seem less severe than it really was. “It’s putting everything under some kind of veil to protect — I don’t know who, [maybe] the reader — or trying to mask what is happening,” she added.

Her comments come after a wave of attention in early 2024 when documents connected to Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell were released. The files included the names of several well-known figures, which quickly became a major talking point online. However, Lipa feels the focus has shifted too much toward famous names instead of the victims.

Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for her role in the trafficking operation, while Epstein died in 2019 before his trial. The fallout from the documents has also affected people in the entertainment world. One example is Casey Wasserman, who stepped down from his agency after past emails with Maxwell became public.

In a statement, Wasserman addressed the situation. “I deeply regret my correspondence with Ghislaine Maxwell, which took place over two decades ago, long before her horrific crimes came to light,” he said. Several artists, including Chappell Roan and Orville Peck, cut ties with the agency after the news broke.

Lipa’s comments reflect her long history of speaking out on social issues. She has often used her platform to highlight global concerns and humanitarian causes. At the same time, she continues to stay busy with her career.

Her 2024 album Radical Optimism was well-received and showed a different sound from her earlier music. She also expanded her Service95 project into a larger platform that includes both a newsletter and a podcast.

Lipa has also stepped into acting, appearing in films like Barbie and Argylle. In Barbie, she played Mermaid Barbie and performed the song Dance the Night for the soundtrack. Through both her work and her public statements, Lipa continues to use her voice to talk about issues she believes matter, including how serious stories are told and understood.
