Duffer Brothers Tease a Brand-New ‘Stranger Things’ Spin-Off Fans Didn’t See Coming
Stranger Things may be ending, but its world is not closing for good. The show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, are hinting that something new is already taking shape beyond the main series.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley, the Duffer Brothers spoke about the final stretch of season 5 and what comes next. While they made it clear the main story is wrapping up, they also confirmed that talks about a spin-off are real.
Matt Duffer explained that the final episodes were designed to answer the biggest questions tied to Hawkins and the Upside Down. “We tried as much as possible to answer all the questions as it relates to the characters and mythology,” he said, adding that the door is being fully closed on the main storyline.
That said, the possible spin-off would not simply extend the original show. According to Matt, it would take place in a new setting with new characters. “It really is a completely different story and a completely different location with completely different actors and characters,” he shared. “It’s really its own entity.”
There has been past talk about a spin-off connected to Nancy Wheeler, played by Natalia Dyer. However, Matt Duffer’s comments suggest the next project could move away from familiar faces and locations. That shift has sparked new fan theories about where the franchise could go next.
Outside of Netflix, the Duffer Brothers have also signed a four-year deal with Paramount. It is still unclear how that agreement might affect future Stranger Things projects. For now, it seems likely they will take a short break before returning to this universe.
