‘Dune: Part Three’ Final Trailer Arrives and Paul Atreides Admits He’s Become the Oppressor
Every ‘Dune‘ trailer has become an event over the past several years, and the end of that run is hard to ignore. Denis Villeneuve’s trilogy is about to conclude, and each new look at Arrakis feels like one step closer to a goodbye. Fans have been counting down to this moment since the first footage appeared.
The build-up has been steady. A teaser on March 17 offered a first look at Robert Pattinson’s shape-shifting villain Scytale, and a fuller trailer followed on July 8 at an IMAX global fan event in Los Angeles. More recently, Warner Bros. unveiled a second set of character posters showing Paul with a striking blue eye and facial injuries, Chani in an emotional moment, Alia covered in blood and screaming, and Scytale with blond hair. A TV spot with new footage also aired during a football broadcast.
Now the final trailer has landed. The 1:50 clip, released on Tuesday as the official last preview before the film arrives, opens with silhouetted armies clashing against a glowing horizon. Timothée Chalamet’s Emperor Paul admits that he has become the oppressor, a line that frames the film as a story about what absolute power does to a hero.

The footage leans into the political thriller side of ‘Dune Messiah’, the novel the film adapts. Paul uses the Voice against Florence Pugh’s Princess Irulan to learn about Chani’s involvement in an assassination plot, and the trailer shows Zendaya’s Chani wrestling with her love for him after what she sees as betrayal. Paul also tries to reunite with her, telling her he’s acting for their family.
The trailer teases a possible alliance between Chani and Scytale, who is hunting for regime change. It also offers more of Anya Taylor-Joy’s unsettling Alia and Jason Momoa’s Hayt, a genetically engineered clone of Duncan Idaho. Alongside the intrigue, there is more sandworm spectacle and plenty of large-scale war scenes.
Villeneuve has described the film as a thriller that is more action-packed, intense and muscular than the previous two. This trailer fits that description. It leans on betrayal and shifting loyalties as much as spectacle.
Reaction was immediate. Fans flooded social media with praise, with some declaring it a “movie of the century” contender after seeing the visuals and scale. Others pointed to the emotional hinge of the trailer, which centers on the bond between Paul and Chani.
The critical conversation has been more mixed over the years, as one outlet noted that its reviewer found the first film weighed down by self-seriousness while calling ‘Dune: Part Two’ a triumph of minimalist maximalism. That history adds an extra layer of curiosity about how the finale will land. The cast is stacked, with Pugh, Pattinson, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin and Charlotte Rampling all returning or joining.
‘Dune: Part Three’ opens in theaters and IMAX across North America on December 18, with international release beginning December 16. Tickets are on sale around the world, and the demand is already visible. London’s BFI IMAX sold 33,000 tickets in 24 hours, a first-day presale record, and tracking points to a franchise-record opening above $100 million.
The film runs about 2 hours and 30 minutes and arrives on the same day as ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, setting up the head-to-head weekend fans call Dunesday. Villeneuve directs from a screenplay he wrote with Brian K. Vaughan, and the team behind the camera includes cinematographer Linus Sandgren, production designer Patrice Vermette, editor Joe Walker and composer Hans Zimmer. Villeneuve has said this will be his final ‘Dune’ project.
There will likely be more TV spots and clips before release, but nothing is expected to match the scale of a final trailer. For now, it gives fans one last long look at Arrakis before December. The wait is now under 2 months.
