The ending of Dutton Ranch season 1 is already setting off major crossover talk inside the Yellowstone universe, with stars Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly teasing how it connects directly to the events of Marshals and what could come next for both series.

According to an interview with TV Insider, both actors addressed the way the two shows mirror each other in their finales, especially around a shared kidnapping storyline that seems to link the narratives together. With both Dutton Ranch and Marshals wrapping up their first seasons, the overlap in plot threads has quickly fueled speculation that Taylor Sheridan’s expanding franchise is preparing a bigger crossover event in season 2.

One of the key points raised in the discussion is the kidnapping of Kayce Dutton’s son, Tate, which is said to lead him toward Texas, the main setting of Dutton Ranch. That detail alone has pushed fans to assume the two series are on a collision course.

When asked directly about a crossover possibility, Kelly Reilly kept her answer short but open-ended, simply saying, “Maybe.” Cole Hauser was more expressive, focusing on the broader idea of reconnecting characters from the original Yellowstone world. He said, “What I will say is I’d love to work with Luke. We saw him in New York for the Upfronts, Kelly and I both, and I just love him, man. I miss him.”

Reilly added to that sentiment, saying, “I miss him too.” Hauser continued by reflecting on the shared history of the cast and the possibility of reunions across the expanding franchise. He said, “I love people that we’ve worked with over the years in Yellowstone, but the fact that he’s on his show and we’re on this show, if there’s a way to somewhere down the road do something special where he comes and visits us or if we go to Montana, great.”

Reilly echoed the emotional connection to the original ensemble, adding, “Go find our sons. But, you know, I think Beth misses her brother, so I would love that to happen. And we were all very close. Wes Bentley, who played Jamie, Kelsey [who played Monica]. We were a family and we miss them very much. So the more we can get back in, that’s what we’re fighting for, Cole and I. Where we get our wishes, we would love to have as many back in our world.”

The finale of Dutton Ranch season 1 already laid the groundwork for this expansion. The episode ended with multiple major developments, including violent confrontations tied to the 10-Petal Ranch storyline and a major kidnapping involving Carter, played by Finn Little. His disappearance, orchestrated by Mariano and his men, leaves Beth and Rip in a dangerous position heading into season 2.

The show also revealed deeper layers of corruption tied to the 10-Petal operation, pushing both Beth and Rip into more unstable territory as they attempt to track Carter down.

Despite the heavy ties to Yellowstone, Hauser emphasized that season 2 will begin to separate itself and develop its own identity. As he put it, “Going into Season 2, you’re going to see more of them trying to find their way.”
