Elizabeth Olsen Says She Will Not Return as Scarlet Witch in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ or ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’!?

Wanda will be back. Wanda won’t be back. The “whether Elizabeth Olsen will return as Scarlet Witch in the MCU” debate has been going on since her “death” in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness three years ago.
Although Kevin Feige teased her return a few months ago, saying, “Since then (Agatha), there have been a lot of questions about Wanda on fans’ minds… So all I can say is that we’re excited to find out when and how the Scarlet Witch might return.,” the actress have now confirmed the opposite.
In a recent interview, Olsen was asked if she’d be staying in London—where she just finished shooting Panic Carefully—to join the Avengers productions. Her answer was clear: “No, I’m back [in the States]. I just finished [Panic Carefully]. I’m moving on to filming a pilot for FX [called Seven Sisters].” This statement suggests that Scarlet Witch may not feature in the next two Avengers films, scheduled for release in 2026 and 2027.
Olsen first brought Wanda to life in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and has since appeared in six MCU films, including her most recent role in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In that movie, Wanda appeared to sacrifice herself to destroy the Darkhold and Mount Wundagore across all universes.
She also starred in the hit Disney+ series WandaVision in 2021, cementing her as a fan favorite. Beyond live-action, Olsen has voiced Wanda in the animated series What If…? and is set to return for 2025’s Marvel Zombies.
Despite her busy MCU history, Olsen’s latest comments point to a break from Marvel. Her next project, Seven Sisters, is a pilot for FX, though it’s not yet guaranteed to become a full series.
Meanwhile, Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars will film throughout 2025, leaving some to wonder if she could still join later. Marvel is known for keeping casting details under wraps, and actors often sidestep questions to avoid spoilers. This has fueled speculation that Olsen might be hiding a surprise return.
Wanda’s fate has been a hot topic since her apparent death in Multiverse of Madness. Given her immense power and the endless possibilities of the multiverse, many believe Marvel won’t keep her off-screen for long. Still, her absence from the upcoming Avengers lineup could shift the focus to other heroes as the saga wraps up.
For now, Olsen’s schedule seems packed with non-Marvel work. Whether that means Scarlet Witch is truly sidelined or just waiting for the right moment to re-emerge remains unclear. Marvel Studios has not commented further, and Olsen’s representatives have also stayed silent on the matter.
Four months ago, Olsen teased her Wanda return
During a Q&A a few months ago, Elizabeth Olsen was asked about Wanda’s return, and the actress may have provided some clarity on the matter:
“Well, honestly, if I were to tell you exactly what I would want I think I would maybe be spoiling something. Kevin Feige genuinely asks us what we want to do with the character and then he does it [Laughs] so I don’t know if I can share…I just want to come back.”

That aligned with all the rumors from 2024. Regarding Olsen, she genuinely wants to return because of her strong connection to the character, as her statement half a year ago revealed:
It’s a character I love going back to when there’s a way to use her
well and I think I’ve been lucky when I started I was used well, and
they kind of didn’t know what to do with me for a second there! If
there’s a good way to use her, I’m always happy to come back. (…) I
think so. I assume as much. Yeah, and there was a red light of explosive
energy. I think I’m dead.
I would beg to leave a window open. I had so much fun doing these movies. I would like to figure out how to cleverly be undead. We need to find the smartest writers to figure out how to make this all make sense. I’m open to ideas.

The last statement from Olsen doesn’t match with what she and Feige were previously talking about, so we can only hope there’s still a chance we see her again.
Wanda’s potential absence from Doomsday and Secret Wars could be a missed opportunity. She’s one of the MCU’s most compelling characters. Her story feels unfinished, and the multiverse offers a perfect chance to bring her back in a fresh way. That said, Marvel might be saving her for a bigger solo return down the line, which could be just as exciting.
