Elle Fanning Reportedly to Play Young Effie in New ‘Hunger Games’ Movie

Elle Fanning has been offered the role of a young Effie Trinket in the upcoming Hunger Games movie, Sunrise on the Reaping. The character was originally played by Elizabeth Banks in the first four films.

This new movie takes place 24 years before the events of the first Hunger Games film. In this story, Effie is not yet the District 12 escort. Instead, she works as a stylist to help her sister, Proserpina.

Effie supports the Hunger Games in theory, but she still shows kindness and truly cares for the tributes.

Filming is set to begin in July in Germany. The movie was announced at CinemaCon by Lionsgate. Francis Lawrence will direct, and Billy Ray will write the script. Brad Simpson and Nina Jacobson will produce the film.

Jacobson has worked on all the previous Hunger Games movies, and Simpson recently produced The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.

If she accepts the role, Fanning could join a star-studded cast. Charlie Plummer is expected to play a young Haymitch. Emma Thompson is set to play Drusilla. Ralph Fiennes has been offered the role of Snow, and Kieran Culkin may play Caesar Flickerman.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is scheduled to hit theaters on November 20, 2026.
