Emilia Clarke Teases the Future of ‘Ponies’ TV Series in New Update
Emilia Clarke has opened up about her career changes, personal struggles, and her current work on the Peacock series “Ponies,” including hopes for a second season. Speaking in a wide-ranging interview, Clarke reflected on how her definition of success has shifted after years of major roles in projects like “Game of Thrones” and big Hollywood franchises.
Clarke said she now focuses less on outside approval and more on enjoying the work itself. She explained that her earlier idea of success was tied to awards and public recognition, but that has changed over time. “Because clearly, I have a 13-year-old’s idea of success,” she said, reflecting on how her mindset evolved after a difficult moment at the Emmys.
A major part of the interview also focused on her health journey and the emotional impact of her brain hemorrhages during her “Game of Thrones” years. Clarke described dealing with fear and survivor’s guilt, saying she often felt like she had “cheated death” and was struggling with the idea that something bad could still happen to her. She said those experiences reshaped how she sees both life and work.
She also discussed the aftermath of her work in major franchises that did not always receive strong audience reactions. Rather than seeing it as personal failure, she said she has learned to separate herself from how projects are received. According to Clarke, the result of a film or series is out of her control once filming ends, so she has tried to let go of that pressure.
One of the key topics in the interview was her recent Peacock series “Ponies.” Clarke plays Bea, a straight-edge wife of a CIA agent who investigates a mysterious death in Soviet-era Russia. She described the project in very positive terms and said it stood out to her immediately when she read the script.
“It was such a joy to read,” Clarke said about “Ponies,” adding that she often reads scripts she enjoys but does not want to act in, which was not the case here. She also noted that she was not only the lead actor but also a producer on the show, which gave her more creative involvement than she had on earlier major projects.
Clarke explained that being a producer on “Ponies” changed her experience significantly because she could take part in conversations about the story and direction. She said the first season ended on a cliffhanger and confirmed that the team is actively discussing what could happen in a possible second season. According to Clarke, there are already ongoing conversations about where the story could go next.
She also contrasted this with her experience on “Game of Thrones,” where she had no creative control over the story. While she praised the creators of that show, she said her role there was strictly performance-based, and she did not feel involved in shaping the character beyond acting choices.

Overall, Clarke’s comments about “Ponies” suggest she is deeply invested in the series both creatively and personally. She described it as one of the projects that reminded her why she enjoys acting, especially because it gave her more control and collaboration than many of her past roles.
