The cast and crew of The Boys are wrapping up the final season of the hit superhero show, and emotions are running high, especially for Erin Moriarty. The actress, who plays Starlight, took to Instagram to share her feelings after filming ended.

“Honestly, f**** ‘don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.’ The tears have begun. The posts are incoming. I said goodbye to most of my work family today and I’ll be ready to smile about it when I’m ready to smile about it. To my Boys fam: love you, c****. Forever.”

This final season is the fifth one, and it’s the end of the road for the original series. It was created for TV by Eric Kripke and is based on the comic book by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.

Kripke said from the beginning that he always planned for the show to last five seasons. The official renewal happened in May 2024, and a few weeks later, Kripke confirmed it would be the last one.

In a tweet, he called it the “gory, epic, moist climax” of the story. Kripke also said in interviews with Variety and Deadline that he’s been building toward this ending for a long time and wants to make sure they “land the plane” well.

The new season will bring back all the familiar faces, Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, and many more.

Jensen Ackles will also return as Soldier Boy, but this time in a bigger role. Kripke said during San Diego Comic-Con 2024 that Soldier Boy will be a big part of the final season and there’s a lot of father-son drama to explore between him and Homelander.

He also gave fans a warning. The final season is going to be “super big, apocalyptic,” and not everyone will survive. He said, “There’s no guarantee who’s going to make it. That’s the fun of a final season.” Kripke explained that the team has a chance to go all-out, and characters who die “will richly deserve it.”

He added, “It’s hard to land the plane. But I really want to land it right. Because if we do, people will say it was a great show. If we don’t, they’ll say it was good… until it s** the bed.”

While this final season is a big moment for the cast, it’s been an emotional year, especially for Erin Moriarty. Earlier, she was the target of cruel online comments about her appearance. People spread rumors about plastic surgery, and she was bullied heavily on social media. In a now-deleted Instagram post, she opened up about the abuse, writing:

“This is something I truly never anticipated writing. We’re all subject to levels of bullying throughout our lives but I am horrified, and I felt that I deserved to take a second to address these things. I am horrified by the reaction, the reductive assumptions, and the aforementioned video that is a primary example of such harassment. It’s broken my heart. You’ve broken my heart.”

After posting it, she left social media for a while to focus on herself. During this hard time, the people she worked with on The Boys stood by her side. Showrunner Eric Kripke tweeted in her defense: “Be kind. If you can’t be kind, then eat a bag of d**ks, f*k off to the sun & don’t watch The Boys, we don’t want you.” Her co-stars, including Antony Starr and Karen Fukuhara, were also supportive. Fukuhara said, “I was really worried about her for a period of time. Nobody is bulletproof, even though I think she’s close to it.”

Thankfully, things eventually calmed down. Moriarty seems to be in a better place now, and she’s leaving the series surrounded by love and support from her castmates.

As The Boys comes to an end, it’s clear the show has meant a lot to everyone involved. The last season doesn’t have a release date yet, but fans can expect something wild, emotional, and unpredictable. Just like the show has always been.
