Norwegian soccer star Erling Haaland is stepping into the film world with his first voice acting role in the upcoming animated movie ViQueens.

The film is directed by Norwegian filmmaker Harald Zwart, known for The Karate Kid and Agent Cody Banks. ViQueens is described as an animated adventure-comedy set in a fantasy world filled with warrior girls, icy Nordic landscapes, and elements inspired by Silk Road mythology.

Haaland will voice an animated version of himself, playing a Viking named Haaland. The casting has drawn attention because of how closely it matches his public image. The Manchester City striker is widely recognized for his physical presence, speed, and long blond hair, traits that have often led fans and media to compare him to a Viking-like figure.

Director Harald Zwart explained the decision in a statement quoted by The Hollywood Reporter. He said, “As a Norwegian storyteller making a Viking adventure for a global audience, having Erling Haaland join ViQueens feels incredibly exciting. Erling has already become a kind of real-life Viking icon around the world – powerful, fearless, and uniquely Norwegian. Bringing him into this universe as himself gives the film an unexpected energy and authenticity that felt completely right for this story.”

The story of ViQueens focuses on two main characters, Hedvig and Ingrid, who are voiced by Rita Ora and Ella Purnell. The film follows the two rebellious Viking girls as they break away from tradition and set off on a journey that takes them far beyond Norway, eventually leading them toward a cross-cultural adventure.

Other cast members include Steve Speirs, Anton Lesser, and Alan Carr, with music composed by Christophe Beck. The film is being produced by Veslemøy Ruud Zwart and Karve Animation, with international sales handled by Sola Media.

According to the report, ViQueens has been in production and was previously presented to buyers at the American Film Market. It is also expected to be featured at upcoming industry markets as it moves toward completion.

Sola Media’s managing director Solveig Langeland highlighted Haaland’s global appeal in a statement. She said, “Erling Haaland transcends sports – he’s a global cultural figure. His involvement brings another exciting dimension to a film that already combines international adventure, humor, and emotional storytelling in a way we believe will resonate with audiences everywhere.”

The film is currently scheduled for delivery in late 2026, with a planned release around Christmas in its home territory. Haaland’s involvement is expected to boost its international visibility, given his global popularity and large social media following.

ViQueens marks a rare crossover for the football star, who is now joining the growing list of athletes moving into animation and film projects while still active in their sports careers.
