‘Euphoria’ Star Sydney Sweeney Pulls Off Her Own Death-Defying Stunt and Sends Tom Cruise a Playful Warning

Hollywood has no shortage of actors chasing adrenaline for the sake of a good story, but few have built an entire brand around real-life stunt work quite like Tom Cruise. His commitment to performing his own death-defying sequences has become as much a part of his legacy as any role he’s played, inspiring plenty of copycats along the way.

Now it looks like Sydney Sweeney is ready to join that conversation. The ‘Euphoria’ star has spent much of the summer showing off her adventurous side, from bungee jumping to helicopter rides during a trip through Australia and New Zealand with boyfriend Scooter Braun. But her latest stunt takes things to an entirely new altitude.

On Aug 24, Sweeney shared a video of herself strapped to the top of a biplane mid-flight, performing a full wing-walking sequence as the aircraft rolled and looped through the sky. Wearing a red safety vest and protective goggles, she stood atop the wing while the plane completed a series of dramatic maneuvers, including a moment where she was sent completely upside down. In the caption, she playfully warned Tom Cruise to watch out, a clear nod to the actor’s own history with the stunt.

The comparison wasn’t a stretch. Cruise famously performed his own wing-walking sequence in 2025’s ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,’ clinging to a vintage Stearman biplane as it reached speeds of around 140 miles per hour at roughly 8,000 feet in the air. That sequence became one of the most talked-about moments of the film, cementing wing-walking as one of the actor’s most extreme stunts yet.

Sweeney’s version of the stunt was carried out with The Wing Walk Company, a flight school based in Ashford, England, and the footage arrived alongside the Yeah Yeah Yeahs track “Spitting Off the Edge of the World” playing in the background. The Wing Walk Company itself joined the fun in the comments, praising Sweeney’s performance and noting how much they enjoyed having her.

The stunt didn’t go unnoticed by the ‘Top Gun’ camp either. The franchise’s official Instagram account commented on Sweeney’s post, playfully referencing the “need for speed” in a nod to Cruise’s own high-flying legacy. It’s a small crossover moment, but one that speaks to just how synonymous Cruise has become with this particular brand of aerial daredevilry.

Sweeney also shared a shorter clip to her Instagram Story, noting she’d decided to strap herself to a plane and go upside down. Friends got in on the reactions too, with photographer Eddy Chen joking that he was relieved he hadn’t joined her for the ride.

Cruise’s own wing-walking journey has been well documented over the years, including his description of the physical toll the stunt work takes on him during filming. Cruise has spoken about training extensively for these sequences and has been open about how brutal the conditions can get during filming, particularly when it comes to the intense wind and cold at altitude.

For Sweeney, the stunt fits neatly into a broader pattern of thrill-seeking she’s leaned into throughout the year, whether it’s speedboats, bungee jumps, or now literal wing-walking over the English countryside. Whether or not Cruise ever responds to the callout remains to be seen, but the internet has already taken notice of Sweeney’s latest leap into daredevil territory.
