Everything Fans Need To Know About ‘My Adventures with Superman’ Season 4
‘My Adventures with Superman‘ just wrapped its third season on Adult Swim, and instead of a celebratory renewal announcement, fans are left staring at a whole lot of question marks. The anime inspired take on Clark Kent and his found family has become one of the network’s biggest hits, yet its future beyond Season 3 remains completely unresolved.
That uncertainty is especially frustrating given how the show has been performing. Season 3 reportedly delivered its strongest viewership yet, which makes the silence around a potential Season 4 sting even more for a fanbase that has already waited through one lengthy hiatus.
‘My Adventures with Superman’ Renewal Status
Showrunner Jake Wyatt addressed the elephant in the room directly on social media ahead of the Season 3 finale, confirming that ‘My Adventures with Superman’ has not yet been renewed for a fourth season. He wrote that the show has not yet been picked up, adding that views have been great and calling it their best ever.
Wyatt was careful to note that the delay does not reflect a lack of enthusiasm from anyone involved. He explained that stakeholders including DC Studios, Adult Swim, and HBO Max have all been supportive of the show, but each has to chart its own future in an uncertain, unstable climate, and that takes time.
This isn’t the first time the creative team has had to manage expectations. During the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con, showrunners Jake Wyatt and Brendan Clogher confirmed that the Adult Swim series had not been renewed for a season four. They noted a renewal could still arrive before or shortly after the third season’s conclusion, but nothing had been locked in at that point.
DC Studios Holds the Final Call
Part of the holdup comes down to who is actually making the decision. Cartoon Network President Michael Ouweleen told Collider that he honestly did not know Season 4’s status yet, since the project started before Peter Safran and James Gunn arrived at DC Studios and now needs sign off from them. Ouweleen added that Gunn and Safran looked at the show, deemed it fine, and told the team to keep going, but that it is now their call moving forward.
That sentiment was echoed again more recently. Speaking with Collider at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Ouweleen reiterated that Adult Swim simply does not know yet, and that the decision is now in the hands of Gunn and Safran.
Complicating matters further is the show’s place inside DC Studios’ much larger slate. Because ‘My Adventures with Superman’ is a preexisting project being folded into DC Studios’ broader plans, its continuation isn’t necessarily a given, especially with the looming Paramount and Warner Bros. merger poised to shake up individual projects even more.
It’s a strange position for a show that critics and fans alike have praised. The series has spent three seasons building out an anime inspired corner of the DC universe, and pulling the plug now would leave several dangling threads without resolution.
The Season 3 Story and What It Means Going Forward
Season 3 put Clark Kent through the wringer in ways earlier seasons hadn’t attempted. The finale, titled ‘The Return,’ arrived after the back half of the season saw Clark stripped of his powers and reeling from a brutal defeat at Brainiac’s hands. The episode brought multiple storylines together at once, opening with a corrupted Bizarro still raging against Brainiac’s drones before Clark stepped in to physically shield the machines and calm Bizarro down.
That moment carried major consequences for the show’s mythology. Watching Clark choose protection over aggression convinced Brainiac that Superman’s real strength comes from compassion rather than force, leading him to finally accept Clark as Krypton’s rightful heir. Meanwhile, the Eradicator tore through Metropolis, battling Jonathan, Lara, and Kara before hijacking a fleet of Kryptonian bots that had been seized by Amanda Waller.
Critics have generally been kind to how the season played out, even if not every choice landed perfectly. One review noted the finale was every bit as epic as the buildup had promised, though the narrative shift around the halfway point dragged in the back stretch of episodes. Another outlet praised the season’s anime inspired fight sequences and animation as the strongest the show has ever looked, with a midseason episode grand enough to feel like a finale in its own right.
With Superboy’s introduction and Brainiac’s shifting allegiance now part of the canon, there’s clearly a lot of story left to tell if Season 4 does get greenlit.
The ‘My Adventures with Green Lantern’ Spinoff
Even with the flagship show’s fate up in the air, the animated corner of DC Studios isn’t going quiet just yet. A new Adult Swim spinoff focused on another DC hero, ‘My Adventures With Green Lantern,’ is already in the works behind the scenes. The spinoff centers on Jessica Cruz’s story as she receives a power ring, with the character having already made her first appearance in Season 3 before getting the ring, and Moana star Auliʻi Cravalho confirmed to be voicing her.
A release window has not been set. No premiere date has been announced for the spinoff, though it would make sense for it to launch alongside a new season of the flagship show if that ever comes together.
For now, fans are left piecing together clues from panels, social media posts, and festival interviews rather than an official announcement. Given how loudly this fanbase has already spoken up about wanting more Metropolis adventures, it’s hard to imagine DC Studios letting this particular corner of the universe stay dormant for long.
