MGM+ has confirmed that its supernatural series From will return for a fifth season, and it will also be the show’s last. According to the network, the final season will bring the story to a proper ending after years of mystery, danger, and fan theories.

The series stars Harold Perrineau and follows a group of people trapped in a strange town that no one can escape. At night, deadly creatures come out, while the woods around the town hide even more threats. The show is filmed in Halifax, Canada, where the production uses a specially built town set.

Fans will not have to wait long for more episodes. Season four is set to premiere on April 19, while work on the fifth and final season is already moving forward. Reports say the writers’ room is open now, and filming is expected to begin this summer in Nova Scotia.

Even though From has become the most-watched show on MGM+, the creative team decided it was time to end the story with season five. Creator John Griffin said there was serious discussion about continuing longer.

There was a fair amount of soul-searching, Griffin said while speaking about whether the series should go beyond five seasons. In the end, the team felt five seasons was the right length for the full story. Executive producer Jeff Pinkner also spoke about what makes the show connect with viewers.

Pinkner, who previously worked on Lost and Fringe, said the emotional side of the story matters just as much as the mystery. We’ve designed From to force these characters to suffer, and they have, Pinkner said. He added that he appreciates fans staying with the show to see how everything ends.

Harold Perrineau’s Sheriff Boyd Stevens has become the center of the series, and many fans see him as the emotional heart of the story. Other returning cast members include Catalina Sandino Moreno, David Alpay, and Elizabeth Saunders.

Season four is expected to deal with the major cliffhangers from season three. After that, season five should finally explain some of the biggest mysteries, including the lighthouse, the town’s origins, and whether anyone can truly escape.
