Early reactions for The Punisher: One Last Kill are finally here, and fans are already calling it one of the darkest and most intense stories Marvel has made in years. The upcoming Disney+ special, led by Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, is getting huge praise online for its brutal action, emotional story, and grounded tone.

According to early reactions shared on social media by critics and fan accounts who attended advance screenings, One Last Kill pushes Frank Castle deeper into emotional and psychological territory than ever before. Many viewers say the special feels more personal and raw compared to past Marvel projects, while still delivering the violent action fans expect from The Punisher.

Marvel-focused account Marvel Tesseract described the special as “the deepest, darkest dive into the tormented psyche of Frank Castle ever put to screen.” The reaction also praised Jon Bernthal’s performance, calling it “his best ever work as the character.”

Several reactions focused heavily on the emotional side of the story. Fans say the special spends time exploring Frank Castle’s trauma, rage, and struggle to move forward from his violent past. One viewer wrote that the project feels “less like we’re watching Frank Castle from the outside and more like we’re trapped inside his head.”

Others praised the action sequences, which reportedly bring back the same brutal energy seen in Daredevil Season 2 and Netflix’s The Punisher series. One reaction called the fight scenes “raw, vicious” and said it feels like “watching a Punisher comic come to life.” Another fan described the action as “bloody and brooding” with “long takes, tons of guns, street fighting, and it’s soaked in blood.”

Many fans online are also surprised by just how far Marvel Studios apparently went with the violence and darker tone. One reaction simply said, “Marvel actually went there. Blood was spilled. SPEECHLESS!” Another called the special “Marvel’s darkest, most savage street-level story yet.”

The positive reactions are also putting a spotlight on Jon Bernthal’s return as Frank Castle. Fans have continued to support Bernthal’s version of The Punisher since Netflix canceled the original series in 2019, and many now believe One Last Kill could be the character’s strongest appearance yet inside the MCU.

The special follows Frank Castle as he tries to leave behind his life of revenge and violence, only to get pulled into a new conflict involving a growing criminal empire. Alongside Bernthal, Jason R. Moore returns as Curtis Hoyle, Frank’s close friend and former military ally.

The project is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and co-written by Green and Jon Bernthal. It serves as the second MCU project centered on The Punisher after Bernthal’s return in Daredevil: Born Again.

Right now, fan reactions online are overwhelmingly positive. Many viewers are already calling it one of Marvel’s best street-level stories in years, with some even asking for more Punisher projects immediately after watching the special.

The Punisher fans have waited a long time to see Frank Castle return in a major way, and if these first reactions are any sign, One Last Kill may have been worth the wait.
