Fans Finally Hear the Brutal Sydney Sweeney Joke Nikki Glaser Cut From the 2026 Golden Globes
Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser held back some of her most savage material during Sunday’s award ceremony, and one target was actress Sydney Sweeney. She recently revealed the brutal joke about Sweeney’s box office performance that never made it to air.
During a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show, Nikki Glaser opened up about several jokes that were removed from her Golden Globes monologue before the broadcast. One of the most pointed lines targeted Sydney Sweeney, who was not in attendance at the 2026 ceremony.
Glaser explained that she had prepared a joke referencing the actress’s recent box office struggles following a massive string of hits in previous years. Tonight is a night of celebration but we can’t ignore that it’s a weird time in Hollywood, Glaser said while reading the unused joke on air.
People just aren’t going to the theater to see things, the comedian continued. If you don’t believe me, there was a movie this year where Sydney Sweeney played a lesbian who just bounced around in tiny shorts for two hours and it made $14.
Nikki Glaser confirmed the joke was written in anticipation of Sydney Sweeney attending the show. Had she been present, the host said she would have delivered the line without hesitation.
The cut joke referenced Sweeney’s 2025 film Christy, a gritty biopic about trailblazing boxer Christy Martin. Despite critical praise for Sweeney’s physical transformation and performance, the movie failed to connect at the box office.
Glaser acknowledged that Sweeney faced heavy public criticism in 2025 and admitted the joke was intentionally sharp. The film became a subject of internet debate after reporting one of the worst second-weekend drops for a wide release in history.
In addition to the Sweeney jab, Glaser revealed she removed several other savage jokes aimed at major Hollywood stars. This included punchlines about Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, and Julia Roberts that she felt were better left on the cutting room floor.
She explained that audience reaction, celebrity attendance, and the potential to genuinely upset someone all factor into her final decisions. Trimming these high-profile punchlines allowed her to balance the room while still maintaining a biting edge.
Despite these omissions, Glaser still delivered a sharp monologue on the night. She successfully roasted stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Timothée Chalamet, the latter of whom she mocked for gaining over 60 ounces for his role in Marty Supreme.
Sweeney has remained incredibly productive despite the commercial dip of Christy. She recently starred in the psychological thriller The Housemaid alongside Amanda Seyfried, which has seen much stronger financial returns, earning nearly $195 million worldwide.
Looking ahead, Sweeney is set to portray the legendary Hollywood screen siren Kim Novak in the upcoming biopic Scandalous!. The film, which explores Novak’s real-life romance with singer Sammy Davis Jr., will be directed by Oscar nominee Colman Domingo and is scheduled to begin shooting in early 2026.
Fans of her breakout role in Euphoria can also look forward to her return as Cassie Howard. Production for the long-awaited third season is finally back on track with an expected release later in 2026.
