Marvel’s iron grip on its biggest secrets has officially slipped, and the internet is here for every blurry, watermarked pixel of it. Leaked footage and images of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom in ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ began flooding social media in mid-June, and the wave of reactions has been nothing short of seismic.

What started as a grainy clip circulating across X and fan forums has quickly turned into one of the most-discussed leaks in recent MCU history.

The leaked clip begins with Doctor Doom seemingly activating a force of Sentinels, with Thor and Steve Rogers shown preparing for battle in response. The God of Thunder calls Stormbreaker to his hand while the former Captain America summons Mjolnir, setting the stage for what appears to be an enormous crossover confrontation. Fighting alongside them are members of the X-Men from the 20th Century Fox films, including Cyclops, who fires off an optic blast before the Sentinels begin their own terrifying counterstrike.

A still image pulled from the footage offers a closer look at Downey rising into the air as two Sentinels loom in the background, giving fans their clearest live-action glimpse yet of Victor Von Doom in motion. Prominent industry scooper Daniel Richtman has since called related leaks, including a reported photograph of Wolverine, Spider-Man, and Deadpool together, “100% real,” lending additional credibility to the circulating material.

The leak marks a rare breach in Marvel’s tightly controlled marketing campaign. Since announcing the film, the studio has carefully revealed characters and story threads in stages, deliberately avoiding major plot details. The scale of what these leaks appear to show, Doom commanding an army of Sentinels against Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four members simultaneously, has only amplified the already-enormous hype around the project.

Downey himself has been tight-lipped about specifics but clearly passionate about the role. Speaking to CBR, he confirmed the team is doing “something different” with the character, saying “a lot of it has been… there’s some experimentation. We’ve had our moments of ‘let’s shift here.’ But we landed in a place that I think will more than suffice.” That philosophy appears to extend to the film’s broader architecture as well, with co-director Joe Russo describing Doom at CinemaCon as a character who “is not simply a villain” but rather “one of the most complex Marvel characters” who is “always three moves ahead.”

The Russo Brothers previously told Entertainment Tonight that Downey had become deeply invested in building out the character, writing backstory and contributing costume ideas, with Joe Russo saying “he is so immersed in it, he is so dialed in.” That level of commitment from one of the MCU’s most beloved figures has clearly resonated, as fan excitement around his Doom continues to build with every new piece of footage that slips through the cracks.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is currently set to arrive in theaters on December 18, with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ to follow in December 2027. With months still to go and leaks already arriving in waves, Marvel’s biggest challenge before release may simply be keeping the rest of its secrets intact.
