First Look at Paul and Chani’s Children in the ‘Dune: Part Three’ Final Trailer Hints at a Bigger Story
Final trailers rarely hide their biggest surprises, but ‘Dune: Part Three’ managed to tuck one into a single frame. Fans have spent days dissecting every shot of the latest footage, from Paul’s grim confession to the armies massing on the horizon. One brief moment in particular is now drawing the most attention.
The film adapts Frank Herbert’s ‘Dune Messiah’ and picks up nearly 2 decades after the events of ‘Dune: Part Two’, with Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides ruling an empire built on a holy war. Zendaya’s Chani has been at the emotional center of the marketing, from the first teaser’s quiet conversation about the future to the newest trailer’s reunion. That teaser showed the couple deciding what to name a child they had not yet had.
Now we have met those children. The final trailer includes a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it first look at Paul and Chani’s twins, Leto II and Ghanima, played by Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke. The image shows 2 young figures in hooded desert gear, one wearing a red headband, standing among a crowd of robed Fremen with intense, watchful expressions.

The reveal works as a payoff to that early scene. In the teaser, Paul and Chani settle on the names Ghanima and Leto, which represent Chani’s strength and the wisdom of Paul’s father, Duke Leto. Seeing the children in the flesh, in circumstances that look far from peaceful, turns that tender moment into something heavier.
Momoa is the son of Jason Momoa, who returns to the saga as Hayt, a genetically engineered clone of Duncan Idaho. The role marks the younger Momoa’s feature debut. Brooke is best known for her work on the Apple TV+ series ‘Silo’, where she acted alongside ‘Dune’ star Rebecca Ferguson.
The twins were cast in June 2025, and the announcement quickly raised questions about how much of Herbert’s later material the film would use. In the novels, Leto II and Ghanima are born near the end of ‘Dune Messiah’ and become central figures in the books that follow. Casting actors who can appear as older children suggested the film would move past that point, and the trailer appears to support that idea.
It also hints at a significant change. One breakdown notes that, rather than the outcome fans of the novel might expect, Chani appears to have survived and raised her children, which gives the film’s focus on her a new unpredictability. That shift could make her the character audiences are most meant to follow as Paul spirals further into tyranny. For book readers, it adds a real question about where the story is heading.
The footage is packed with conflict beyond the twins. Anya Taylor-Joy’s Alia tests Hayt’s loyalty, Paul asks Hayt to look after his family, and Javier Bardem’s Stilgar leads Fremen ready to fight Paul’s holy war. Robert Pattinson’s Scytale and Florence Pugh’s Princess Irulan feed into a conspiracy against the Emperor, while Paul uses the Voice to learn about Chani’s role in a plot.
The trailer also frames Paul as a brutal ruler who admits he has become the oppressor. That tone matches Denis Villeneuve’s description of the film as a more intense, muscular thriller than the first two. Adding children to the mix raises the personal stakes considerably.

‘Dune: Part Three’ opens in theaters and IMAX on December 18, with international release beginning December 16. It runs about 2 hours and 30 minutes and lands the same day as ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, a clash fans call Dunesday. Presales have been strong, with London’s BFI IMAX selling 33,000 tickets in 24 hours and tracking pointing to a franchise-record opening.
Villeneuve has said this will be his final ‘Dune’ film, so the trilogy’s last chapter carries a sense of finality. The twins hint at a future beyond Paul’s reign, even if the director closes the book on his own story. Until December, fans will keep rewatching that single frame for clues.
